TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2023
SARATOGA YOUTH COMMISSION
7:00 P.M. SPECIAL MEETING
Chair Hao called the Special Meeting to order at 7:06 PM
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Xia, Zhao, Hao, Dharwadkar, Henry, Chao, Jing (virtual), Kelkar, McCormick, Singh.
ABSENT: Krishna.
EXCUSED: NONE.
MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC: Christopher Xia, Bianca Sutioso, Grace Mischou, Sriya Mukund.
AGENDA ITEMS:
1. Youth Commission Minutes
Recommended Action:
Review and approve the minutes from the December 6, 2022 meeting.
COMMISSIONER SINGH/COMMISSIONER HENRY MOVED TO APPROVE THE DECEMBER
6, 2022 SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES.
- AYES: Xia, Zhao, Hao, Dharwadkar, Henry, Chao, Jing (virtual), Kelkar, McCormick, Singh.
- NOES: NONE.
- ABSTAIN: NONE.
- ABSENT: Krishna.
- PASSED: 10-0
2. Community Events
Recommended Action:
Review upcoming community events and schedule shifts amongst the Commissioners
who are available.
- Hakone Gardens (Sunday, 1/29)
- Saint Patty’s day (Saturday, 3/11 2pm-4pm)
- Shift will be likely 1:30-4:30 pm
3. SED Talks Committee Report
Recommended Action:
Receive committee report and update for the upcoming March 4, 2023 SED Talks event.
Assign roles for the day of the event and confirm availability of the entire Commission.
- Talk is about water cleanliness + management
- look at environmental science/water preservation departments at universities
- cold email professors/other people

COMMISSIONER HENRY/COMMISSION KELKAR MOTIONED TO SEND IN THE BOLDED TITLES
AS THE TOP THREE CHOICES OF THE COMMISSION.
- AYES: Xia, Zhao, Hao, Dharwadkar, Henry, Chao, Jing (virtual), Kelkar, McCormick, Singh.
- NOES: NONE.
- ABSTAIN: NONE.
- ABSENT: Krishna.
- PASSED 10-0
4. Sports Competition Committee Report
Recommended Action:
Receive the committee report and provide input or direction as requested. All
considerations should encompass and reflect the entirety of our youth in Saratoga.
- Tentative dates
- Sunday March 19, 2023
- Sunday March 26, 2023
- Sunday April 2nd, 2023
- Timing: 10am-5pm
- Location: Cost should not be an issue + already have established communication
- West Valley College
- Saratoga High School
- Public Comment: Random assignment for single players (Christopher Xia)
COMMISSIONER SINGH/COMMISSIONER DHARWADKAR MOVE TO GIVE THE TOP CHOICES
OF THE FLIER AND APPROVE ANY CHANGES TO TIME AND LOCATION FOR THE
BASKETBALL COMMITTEE.
- AYES: Xia, Zhao, Hao, Dharwadkar, Henry, Chao, Jing (virtual), Kelkar, McCormick, Singh.
- NOES: NONE.
- ABSTAINS: NONE.
- ABSENT: Krishna.
CHAO/ZHAO MOVE TO TAKE A BREAK FROM 8:05PM-8:10 PM
4. Treasurer & Marketing Chair Report
Recommended Action:
Receive a verbal status report from the Youth Commission Treasurer and Marketing
Chair. Provide any updates about upcoming Youth Commission work plan efforts and
divide marketing and outreach roles amongst the Commissioners as needed.
- Approved by the City Council!
5. Fitness Challenge: Committees & Timeline
Recommended Action:

Receive the committee report and provide input or direction as requested. Determine
whether a fitness challenge will be feasible for the 2022/23 school year. All
considerations should encompass and reflect the entirety of our youth in Saratoga.
- Two ideas
- Month-long version of make it to Muko
- 1-week/2-week event (1 trail per day for 7 days)
- opens community’s eyes to new trails
- more like Toga trails
- take pictures for verification
- Prize Drawing (more trails=more tickets=more likely to do a
prize)
COMMISSIONER XIA/COMMISSIONER CHAO MOVED TO APPROVE THE 1-WEEK LONG/2-
WEEK LONG NEW VERSION OF TOGA TRAILS AND TO ADD COMMISSIONER CHAO TO THE
FITNESS CHALLENGE SUBCOMMITTEE.
- AYES: Xia, Zhao, Hao, Dharwadkar, Henry, Chao, Jing (virtual), Kelkar, McCormick, Singh.
- NOES: NONE.
- ABSTAIN: NONE.
- ABSENT: Krishna.
- PASSED 10-0
6. Future Agenda Items
Recommended Action:
Review the agenda planner and consider agenda items for upcoming meetings. The next
Youth Commission meeting is scheduled for February 28, 2023.
