SARATOGA YOUTH COMMISSION
7:00 P.M. REGULAR MEETING
Chair Chen called the Regular Meeting to order at 7:00 PM
ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Chen, Commissioner Gonzalez, Commissioner Mukund, Commissioner Aribi,

Assistant City Manager Leslie Arroyo explained the public comment process.
AGENDA ITEMS:
1. Youth Commission Minutes
Recommended Action:
Review and approve the minutes from the March 25 and April 22 regular meetings.
Chair Chen welcomed next year’s commissioners and gave a brief overview of what their
responsibilities will be as members of the Youth Commission. Other Commissioners chimed in
with tips for the incoming members of the Commission.

Commissioners reviewed the 3/25/25 and 4/22/25 meeting minutes. Once the review was
completed, Commissioner Xia made a motion to approve the minutes and Commissioner
Chowdhri seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
Commissioner Chowdhri arrived at 7:02 PM
Commissioner Aribi arrived at 7:05 PM
2. Recap Teen Coffeehouse event
Recommended Action:
Debrief the 5/16/25 Teen Coffeehouse event. Share feedback on what went well and what
could be improved for future events.
Commissioner Fugman gave a recap of the May Coffeehouse event. The Commission
discussed possible improvements to the committee’s marketing strategies for future events in
an effort to reduce the need for a last-minute marketing push.
3. Blossom Festival Event
Recommended Action:
Debrief the 5/17/25 Blossom Festival event. Share feedback on what went well and what could
be improved for future events.
Commissioner Chowdhri gave a description of the Blossom Festival event. She suggested
that the Youth Commission bring a clean tablecloth and display a visible sign to clarify who
the stand is being run by. She also noted that the Commission should provide and supplies
to manage the weather at the stand, which was very windy, and that there is only need for
around two Commissioners per shift.
4. Year End Presentation
Recommended Action:
Discuss the Youth Commission’s year end presentation to the City Council.
Chair Chen reminded Commissioners to arrive to City Hall at 6:30 to practice the end-of-year
presentation before the actual meeting at 7:00 PM. She explained the structure of the
presentation, and noted that Commissioners do not need to prepare scripts for their sections.
The Commission made some final edits to the slideshow, and the finalized version will be sent
to Assistant City Manager Arroyo by Wednesday, May 29th.
Chair Chen made a motion to take a break, and Commissioner Fugman seconded the
motion. Chair Chen called the meeting to order again at 7:36 PM.
5. Chair and Vice Chair Elections
Recommended Action:
Elect the Youth Commission’s 2025-2026 Chair and Vice Chair.
Commissioners Fugman, Xia, Jain, and Aribi ran for the position of Chair. In a blind vote,
Commissioner Xia was elected chair of the 2025-2026 Youth Commission.
Commissioner Fugman, Jain, Aribi, and Miin ran for the position of Vice Chair. In a blind vote,
Commissioner Fugman was elected Vice Chair of the 2025-2026 Youth Commission.
6. Marketing Team Report

Receive report from the Marketing Team.
Chair Chen reminded the Commission that Commissioner Aribi has access to the Instagram
account and password. Commissioner Mukund complimented the Coffeehouse Committee on
their distribution of posters.
7. Treasurer Report
Recommended Action:
Receive report from Treasurer Gonzalez.
Treasurer Gonzalez was unable to give her report, as she was absent from the meeting;
however, so far, the Youth Commission has spent $885.61, and our budget is $3114.39. There
is $550 in the miscellaneous account.
8. City Report
Recommended Action:
Receive report from staff of City updates.
Assistant City Manager Leslie Arroyo presented this month’s City Report, which included the
Dragon Boat Festival, Saratoga Nights, and the summer movie nights, one of which the Youth
Commission is helping to plan, among other announcements. She also reminded the incoming
Youth Commissioners of the June 4th swearing-in ceremony and the Commission of the year-
end presentation. Last, she announced that the Youth Commission will be getting a new staff
liaison next year. The Commission also finalized some details of the end-of-year event: they
will be doing an escape room on June 10th at the Westfield Valley Fair mall.
9. Future Agenda Items and Youth Commission Calendar Review
Recommended Action:
Review the agenda planner for upcoming important dates.
Commissioner Jain requested additional Youth Commission participants at the Movie Night
event to help with the planned pre-movie activities. The Commission decided not to provide a
lava lamp craft at the movie night event due to lack of time and resources.
