SARATOGA YOUTH COMMISSION
7:00 P.M. SPECIAL MEETING
Chair Xia called the Special Meeting to order at 7:00 PM
ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioner Chiu, Commissioner Xia, Commissioner Chen, Commissioner
Fugman, Commissioner Jain, Commissioner Agarwal, Commissioner Miin, Commissioner Suh
Absent: Commissioner Lee, Commissioner Anand, Commissioner Aribi

Commissioner Anand arrived at 7:01 PM, Commissioner Aribi arrived at 7:04 PM,

1. Youth Commission Minutes
Recommended Action:
Review and approve the minutes from the November 25, 2025 regular meeting
Commissioners reviewed the 11/25/25 meeting minutes. Once the review was
completed, Chair Xia made a motion to approve the minutes and Commissioner Chen
seconded the motion, after minor edits and spelling changes. The motion was
unanimously approved.
2. Recap Past Events
Recommended Action:
Debrief Farmers’ Market, and Candy Cane Village. Share feedback on what went well,
what could have been
improved, and overall thoughts
Commissioner Agarwal reflected on the first Farmers’ Market event, stating that it went
well especially with the South Asian organization. Commissioners Chen and Anand
pitched the idea of having flyers and posters on the table to better promote the Youth
Commission, as well as having more interactive activities catered towards younger
children. In regards to the Candy Cane Village, Commissioner Chiu stated that, in the
future, it would be a good idea to not have paint brushes. Additionally, Commissioner
Agarwal stated that the glitter glue and crafts require two commissioners to be present
and volunteering.
3. Discuss Future Events
Recommended Action:
St. Patrick’s Day and Blossom Festival; review agenda planner
Agenda Planner
The Commissioners discussed availability for the St. Patrick’s Day and Blossom Festival
events, as well as potential logistics based on previous years. Jocelyn Binn brought up
potentially having face painting as an activity at the St. Patrick's Day event on March 8th
from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
4. Discuss Subcommittees and Reports/Memo
Recommended Action:
Farmers’ Market, Bingo Night, SED Talks, & Parks and Recreation Hike
SED Talks Committee Memo
Commissioner Chiu shares that the SED Talks temporary committee has finalized on
three of their speakers (Steve Chou, Dr. George Lye, the CEO of WhisperFlow), and that
the event will be taking place at the Joan Pisani Community Center. There will be no
halftime show. Commissioners Miin, Xia, and Anand discuss potentially reducing the
speaking time of each speaker, and whether to have an intermission. 15 minutes per
speaker, including an intermission, is finalized. The second Farmer’s Market temporary
committee is discussing incorporating the Black Student Union to their next event (March
7th).
6. Youth Commission Apparel
Recommended Action:
Receive updates on apparel
Seven responses for Youth Commission apparel have been received by Commissioner
Miin, and she discusses the most popular designs and clothing items.
9. Marketing Chair Report
Recommended Action:
Discuss with newly-elected Co-Marketing Chairs on how to advertise upcoming events;
receive report
The marketing chairs recall posting an Instagram story for the Farmers’ Market event.
The SED talks temporary committee is in the process of creating a flyer to promote their
event.
10. Treasurer Report
Recommended Action:
Discuss with newly-elected Treasurer practices to track Youth Commission expenditures;
receive report
Commissioner Jain states that no expenses have been made since the previous meeting.
The commission agrees, once again, upon budgeting $150 for larger events and $50 for
smaller events.
11. City Report
Recommended Action:
Receive report from staff of City updates and review attendance and participation
and parent chaperones
City Report
Jocelyn Binn informs the commission of upcoming events and activities taking place in
the city.
