MEETING Chair Xia called the Special Meeting to order at 7:00 PM ROLL CALL Present: Commissioner Chiu, Commissioner Xia, Commissioner Chen, Commissioner Fugman, Commissioner Jain, Commissioner Suh, Commissioner Anand, Commissioner Lee Absent: Commissioner Aribi, Commissioner Agarwal, Commissioner Miin Also Present: ● Jocelyn Binn, Administrative Analyst ● Arjun Bhate, Public Attendee ● Bhushan Bhate, Public Attendee ● Austin Zhao, Public Attendee ● Amilia Premji Fugman, Public Attendee (ZOOM) ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ON NON-AGENDIZED ITEMS AGENDA ITEMS: Commissioner Aribi arrived at 7:04 PM 1. Youth Commission Minutes Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes from the January 13, 2026 regular meeting Commissioners reviewed the 1/13/26 meeting minutes. Once the review was completed, Chair Xia made a motion to approve the minutes and Commissioner Chen seconded the motion, after minor edits and spelling changes. The motion was unanimously approved. 2. Recap Past Events Recommended Action: Debrief first half of Youth Commission year. Share feedback on what went well, what could have been improved, and overall thoughts. Commissioner Chen suggests having interactive activities and flyers for the Farmers’ Market event. Commissioner Suh emphasizes the importance of telling participants that they cannot steal items from arts and crafts activities in the Candy Cane Village eve nt. Through public comment, a meeting participant shares the possibility of including signage to prevent people from stealing items. 3. Discuss Future Events Recommended Action: St. Patrick’s Day, Lunar New Year, and Movie Night; Youth Commission Recruitment Dates; review agenda planner The Commission reviews availability for the upcoming events. Commissioner Xia and Fugman discuss potential activities such as stickers and facepainting at the Lunar New Year event. The commission proceeds to decide movies for the Movie Night event, finalizing on How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, and Zootopia 2. Lastly, Jocelyn Binn informs the Commission that their recommendations for recruitment have been implemented, and invites Commissioner Xia and Commissioner Fugman to be present at the interviews. 4. Discuss Subcommittees and Reports/Memo Recommended Action: Farmers’ Market, Bingo Night, SED Talks, Coffeehouse, & Parks and Recreation Hike Commissioner Xia shares that the temporary committee has contacted the Westmont Black Student Union, who is willing to take part in the next Farmers’ Market. He additionally states that the event should take place on March 7th, or March 14th as an alternative. Commissioner Lee shares that Samuel wants the Youth Commission to be in charge of the snack shack at the Bingo Night event in the senior center. Commissioner Chen shares that the temporary committee for Coffeehouse will discuss with the Teen Advisory Board tomorrow. Commissioner Anand shares logistics about the Let’s Hike event, including the warm-up yoga, I-Spy event, and snacks provided. Commissioner Chiu states that two speakers are finalized for the SED talks event and discusses details about the potential halftime event. 6. Youth Commission Apparel Recommended Action: Receive updates on apparel Commissioner Chiu updates that the design for Youth Commission apparel is finalized, and that Jocelyn Binn is currently working on consolidating a finalized invoice. 7. Marketing Chair Report Recommended Action: Receive report from Co-Marketing Chairs The marketing chairs share their progress on the creation of a Youth Commission flyer and also discuss the possibility of having a shared photos album for outreach purposes. Commissioner Lee requests a promotion flyer for the Bingo Night event. An attendee utilizes public comment to discuss the possibility of the historian folder to keep track of events from previous years. 8. Treasurer Report Recommended Action: Discuss with Treasurer practices to track Youth Commission expenditures; receive report Commissioner Jain shares information about recent expenses and current financials. Jocelyn Binn also predicts potential costs for future events, encouraging temporary committees to share about this in the next meeting. 9. City Report Recommended Action: Receive report from staff of City updates and review attendance and participation and parent chaperones City Report Jocelyn Binn informs the commission of upcoming events and activities taking place in the city.
