Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. II. Roll Call Commissioners Present: Ceppos, Martini, Peacock, Skow Commissioners Absent: Grantham, Krezek, Towse III. Rex>ort on Posting of Commission Agenda The agenda was posted on March 18, 1993. IV. Approval of Minutes of Februarv 24, 1993 l~eetinq M/S Martini/Skow to approve the minutes as submitted. V. Old Business A. Fund-raising l~ctivitie~, Discussion related to fund-raising was kept brief since certain sub-committee members were not present. Community Librarian Dolly Barnes mentioned that Councilmember Karen Tucker had told her that some of the concerts at the Paul Masson winery had been co-sponsored with other local, non- profit organizations to assist these organizations with their fund-raising. Community Librarian Barnes said that she would contact Paul Masson to find about more about this fund-raising possibility. Chair Barbara Peacock indicated that she would get in touch with the president of the Friends of the Library if this was an activity that the Commission could pursue with the Friends in the future. VI. New Business A. Election of Chair and Vice-Chair Since three members of the Library Commission were not present, the Commission members agreed that it would be best to defer the election of the Chair and Vice-Chair until the next regular meeting of the Commission. VII. #teports Susan Fuller, County Librarian County Librarian Susan Fuller distributed a state senate bill that was introduced by Senator Roberti. The bill allows jurisdictions which provide library services to use assessment districts for funding library services and • facilities. Fuller said that this bill may be one way libraries will be able to regain lost revenues for operations. She added that more will be heard about the bill since it was dust introduced this month and that the bill will probably go on the June 1994 ba116t. Fuller also mentioned that Saturday, March 27, was the legislative breakfast and that May 4 was legislative day. She reminded the Commissioners that they were all invited to attend the county-wide commission meeting scheduled for April 24. Fuller also indicated that Commissioners should not be surprised if they hear of discussion of merging the County and San Jose libraries. Dg11X„~~rnes , Co~,ity ~~, b~ar~~n Community Librarian Do11y Barnes mentioned that March was the 10 year anniversary of the Friends of the Library Book-Go-Round. She introduced Pat Mahler of the Friends and asked her to talk about the Book-Go-Round. Pat Mahler said that the Book-Go-Round earned $202,000 during its 10 years of operations . She mentioned that the Book- Go-Round has always been operated by volunteers and that currently sixty volunteers run the bookstore.
