Library Commission
September 27,1989

A meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday
evening, September 27, 1989. Following is a summary of the
action taken.
I. Roll Call
Commissioners present: Dyer, Mills, Moloney,
Moore, Peacock, Wood
Commissioners absent: Newby (excused)
II. Revort on_Postina of Commission Agenda
The agenda was posted on September 22, 1989.
III. Approval of Minutes
The August 23, 1989, minutes were approved as
written.
IV. Old Business
A. Attendance Schedule at City Council Meetings
Commissioner Mills reported on his attendance
at the September 6 Council meeting. Since
there was nothing at the meeting which
pertained to the library, it was agreed to
discuss further with City staff the reasons
for attendance at Council meetings.
V. New Business
A. Dolly Barnes, Saratoga Commmunity Library
Supervisor: Recreational Reading (and
Listening)
Dolly Barnes reported on the variety and
format of recreational materials available in
the library. Books, periodicals, and media
were shown and discussed.
VI. Reports
Susan Fuller, County Librarian
Susan Fuller announced that 1) the California
Library Association will meet in Oakland Nov. 10-
14, and 2) an orientation tour of Library
Administrative headquarters is planned for October
24.

Dolly Barnes reported that the new Friends of the
Library President is Jane Vaughan, who helpfully
stepped in when the elected President had to
resign. A Secretary is being sought.
Carolyn King, City Staff Representative
No report.
Barbara Wood, Chair
Barbara Wood 1) asked that the group bring items
for a possible wish list, 2) issued an invitation
to Commissioners to join the Friends and made
available envelopes for ate~nbership, and 3 )
reported on the status of the availability of the
periodicals from Willys Peck's collection, and
recommended that the Friends might consider the
microfilming of the 1917-1920 Saratoga Star which
are not available at Los Gatos.
VII. Oral and Written Communications
Roberta Gies of the Friends mentioned that the
auction and booksale is scheduled for October 5-7.
Letters were sent to the Monte Sereno City Council
thanking them for budgeting a contribution for
Sunday service, and to Vicky Kaleikau for her
presentation to the Commission in August.
