Following is a summary of the action taken. I. Roll Call All Commissioners present except Moore and Newby II. Report on Postino of Gommission Agenda Carolyn king reported that the agenda had been posted an January 20, 1989. III. Approval of Minutes The December 14, 1988 minutes were approved as written. IU. Qld Business A. Recognition of Friends of the Library for CALTAC award County Library representative Janice Yee noted that recognition by the Board of Supervisors of the Friends has been postponed to February 7. Commissioner Marilyn Kanemura said she expects the County Library Commission recognition to take place on February 6. U. New Business A. Agenda for February ? Joint Meeting with City Council Following considerable discussion, the Commission agreed that the following topics would be submitted to the Council as a proposed agenda for the joint meeting: 1. Discussion of continuation of funding for current schedule of Sunday hours and expansion of additional staffing from 14 to a minimum of 28 of the open Sundays 2. Discussion of the need for improved maintenance of the library grounds 3. Consideration of future expansion of the library building and need to reserve necessary portion of surrounding park for this expansion 4. Discussion of the ramifications of the installation of new carpeting in the library expected next August B. Priority Setting for New Budget It was agreed that the first three items of A, would also be submitted as the Commission's priorities for the City's 1989-91 policy development process. 1 • • VI. City Staff Representative Carolyn King reported that the application period for filling the two positions which will become vacant has been extended to February 10, and appointments may be made by the Council by February 15. Marv Gandrudy Chair Mary Gandrud asked that the Commissioners attending the January 28 CALTAC meeting be prepared to report on it at the next Commission meeting, and noted that election of officers will be on the next agenda.
