HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-14-1988 Library Commission Minutes• • Action Minutes Library Commission December 14, 19$8 A meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday evening, December 14, 1988. Following is a summary of the action taken. I. Roll Call All Commissioners present except Peacock II. Resort on Pastino cif Commission Aoenda Carolyn King reported that the agenda had been posted on December 7, 1988. III. Aparoval of Minutes The October 26, 1988 minutes were approved as written. IV. Old Business A. Status Report on Telephone Location City Staff Representative Carolyn King noted that the phone booth was in place near the driveway of the Library and was being used regularly. B. CALTAC Friends Award The CALTAC award was presented to representatives of Saratoga Friends of the Library in Fresno on November 9. County Librarian Susan Fuller reported that the County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to present a resolution of commendation to the Friends at their January 10 Board meeting. Commissioner Marilyn Kanemura noted that the County Library Commission will also be recognizing the achievement of the Friends. V. New Business A. Circulation The Commission discussed the Library°s overall circulation and what might be done to enhance the figures. Various suggestions including study of ways to make the collection more attractive and consideration of the Chicago system were discussed. The subject will be agendi~ed in the future for further discussion. VI. Reports Susan Fuller, County Librarian Susan Fuller reported on 1} the passage of Proposition 85 and other library measures, and Z) the CALTAC workshop to be held in Pleasanton on January 28. ~• ~~ Dolly Barnes. Community Library Suoervisor Dolly Barnes reported that 1) the staff had circulation issues, 2) the Food Bank's food Library was extremely successful, and 3) the Library are donating X6,000 for the project back issues of the Saratoga News. • also been discussing collection at the Friends of the of microfilming the Carolyn Kino. City Staff Reg_resentative Carolyn King reminded the Commission that February 7 was the date of their annual joint meeting with the City Council and that there could be discussion of possible topics for the agenda at the January meeting.
