A. Deputy Atlas --school resource officer
1. Explain function, purpose of his position
The sheriffs department created the school resource
officer position three years and one month ago so
that schools would have a liaison with the sheriffs
department. Deputy Atlas has held the position.
Before then, the position was rotated among deputies,
but the school was having a hard time adjusting to aIl
the different deputies. Thus, the school resource
officer position was created. Atlas goes around to
local schools around Halloween to educate young
people about not ruining Halloween for little kids.
2. Will give guidance for dance chaperoning/behavior
incidents, etc.

The shttifPs depatbment doesn't hlce teens hanging
out behind the coffee shop because the owners of the
shops in the area do not think that teens hanging
around behind there is helping to increase their
business or safety. There have been many complaints
filed by the owners. Two commissioners did not
appreciate how one blond deputy, who had her hair
in a tight bun, treated teens. Deputy Atlas responded
by saying that the deputy did things differentiy but
that she would be transferred by January 1st.
Deputies have the legal right to search anyone if they
are suspicious. They may then investigate and this
mayinvolve spat-down. or a search. Deputy Atlas
also said that teens shouldn't hang around ~Vildcs ood
Park or Saratoga High School around the offhows.
Wildwood Park has designated hours and Saratoga
High has found a lot of litter and urine in the front of
the school which the custodians do not appreciate.
Atlas said that a school is only open during it's school
hours and going on school grounds during its off-
hours is considered trespassing. Finally, Deputy
Atlas talked about parties. He said that parties are
usually fine if the owner of the house thinks it is and
no alcoholic beverages are being consumed. During a
fmt call of a complaining neighbor, a fine is usually
not imposed, but a warning is given. If a second call
is received, then the owner of the house may be
charged for all the deputies that have to be
e~snatched. Cammicsianers requested that deputies
give more leeway in the futwe so that party goers can
and flneiā¢ designated drivers. Deputy Atlas said that
he would relay the message. He said that a sheriffs
tab is often very danberous when guns and cars are
involved and said to just pull over if a sheriff is after
you. .
B. Dance update -Nicole Behnke
The cost is $4, $5 at the daor. It was decided that a band not
be called because middle schoolers didn't appreciate bands
and only liked slow songs.
