Library Commission
July 27, 1988
A meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday evening,
July 27, 1988. Following is a summary of the action taken.
1. Roll Call
All Commissioners present except Moore
II. Report on Posting of Commission Aoenda
Carolyn King reported that the agenda had been posted on
July 22, 1988.
III. Aoaroval of Minutes
The May 25, 19$8 minutes were approved as written.
IV. Old Business
A. Monte Sereno Gity Council Action on Request for Funding
of Sunday Hours
Commissioner Barbara Wood reported that the Gity of Monte
Sereno has budgeted X1992 to fund four Sunday afternoon
openings. She distributed copies of her correspondence
with the City of Monte Sereno.
B. Discussion of Status of Projects
In response to inquiries, City Staff Representative Carolyn
King noted that the City Engineer will have a report on the
survey of public telephone locations for the next meeting,
and the handicap access project for the Library is scheduled
to begin this quarter.
V. New Business
A. Discussion of Ca1Tac Nomination
The consensus of the Commission was to again nominate the
Saratoga Friends of the Library for consideration for the
annual awards. Commissioner Marilyn Kanemura will write a
letter of nomination, and a letter from the Mayor will be
requested also.
VI. Reports
Susan Fuller. County Librarian
Susan Fuller reported on 1) the County's budget hearings 2)
the literacy project with West Valley College 3) the annual
County Library Commissions meeting on September 24 4) the
new Library brochure, and 5) the appointment of Marilyn Kanemura
to the County Library Commission.

Dolly Barnes. Communi,~ Library Supervisor
Dolly Barnes reported on 1) the reorganization of the magazine
section by a volunteer, and 2) the summer reading program which
has more than 200 children.

Carolyn King reminded the Commission of the Commission Recognition
Dinner on September 27 and the need to include an update on the
Commission's activities in the printed program.
Marv Gandrud. Chair
Mary Gandrud thanked the Commission for electing her as Chair, and
discussed the use of the lines of communication.
VII. Oral an Written Communications
Marilyn Kanemura reported on her first meeting as a member of the
County Commission as a representative of Supervisor Diane
McKenna's District.
