May 25, 1988
A meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday evening,
May 25, 19$8. Following is a summary of the action taken.

II. Report on Postino of Commission Aoenda
Carolyn King reported that the agenda had been posted on
May 20, 1988.
III. Aaoroval of Minutes
The March 23, 1988 minutes were approved as written.
IU. Old Business
A. Discussion of Extension of Sunday Hours
Chair Marilyn Kanemura affirmed that the Council had approved
the Commission's request to fund additional staff help on the
busiest Sundays, and four more open Sundays during the next
school year, as outlined in the Administrative Assistant's
budget memo. Marilyn also read the letter Commissioner Wood
had sent to the Monte Sereno City Council requesting continua-
tion of thier support.
B. Discussion of Rotary Club Landscaping Project
City Staff Representative Carolyn King noted that the Rotary
Club had completed their landscaping project the previous
weekend. Two redwood benches have been installed near the
parking lot.

UI. Reports
Janice Yee. County Librarian
Janice Yee of the County Library staff reported on the summer
reading club activities, and handed out the new county library
system fact sheet and a copy of the letter that the County
Librarian had sent to City Managers on the formula factors.
She also commented that the overall budget is looking very
strong.
Do11Y Barnes. Community Library Supervisor
Dolly Barnes reported on the party which had been held for the
library's volunteers, and an the conclusion of the Zonta prog-
ram which had placed mentally disabled people as helpers in the
library.

Carolyn King had no report.
Marilyn Kanemura. Chair
Marilyn Kanemura reported that Mary Beth Gandrud would be taking
over as Chair at the next meeting.
VII. Oral and Written Gommunicat~ons
Roberta Geis, a representative of the Board of the Friends of the
Library discussed the work of the Friends in operating the Book-
Go-Round, which recently celebrated its fifth birthday. It was
agreed that the Friends would submit a brief item for inclusion in
the City's September newsletter.
