A. Discussion of Feasibility of Extension of Sunday Hours
County Librarian Susan Fuller and Community Library Supervisor
Dolly Barnes provided information on the impact of extending
Sunday service on the staff, the Sunday use of the library and
cost data. After considerable discussion of the needs, level
of service and cost effectiveness, a motion was passed 6-0 to
ask the Council to consider increasing support for Sunday
service by ;1;605 beyond the budgeted amount for extra help at
the reference desk and approximately ~~,000 for four
additional Sundays which would be a step toward the
Commission's goal of providing Sunday service year-round.
Staff will prepare a proposal to Council as part of the budget
adjustment process for the second year of the current two-year
budget. The Commission Chair will send a letter to the Monte
Sereno Council asking for their continued support of four
Sundays.
B. Discussion of Donation of Benches
City Staff Representative Carolyn King reported on the
Saratoga Rotary Club's intention to provide outdoor waiting
benches near the library entrance, and to do additional
landscaping in front of the library. If the cost is greater
than the X1,000 that Rotary is alloting, the project can be
phased over a two year period, or the Friends of the Library
may be asked for matching funds. The Commission agreed that
this project should be coordinated through the City's
Maintenance Department.
C. Election of Officers tChair and Uice Chair for 88/89)
