Li nary Commission
January 27, 1988
R meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday evening,
January 27, 1988. Following is a summary of the action taken.
I. ggll Gall --
All Commissioners were present except Barrett Moore
II. Report on Postin° of Commission Aoenda
Carolyn King reported that the agenda had been posted on
January 22, 1988.
III. Approval of Minutes
The December 2, 198 minutes were approved as written.
IV. ~ Business
A. Discussion of Book Orop
Community Library Supervisor Dolly Barnes reported that the
book drop is now available during hours the library is open
on an experimental basis through March. She expects the use
of it to grow as people become more aware of its availability.

Dolly Barnes reported, in response to previous Commission
comments, that the aisles between book stacks conform to the
standards prevailing at the time the library was built, and
that 1) children's programs have been expanded, and 2) the
next Friends of the Library meeting would feature poetry
readings.
V. ew Business
~~ A. Discussion of Items for Joint Meeting with City Council -
February 23
The Commission decided there were no items that they wished to
place on the agenda for this meeting.
VI. Reports

Susan Fuller reminded the Commission that Monte Sereno will need
to be approached about funding Sunday hours for 1988/$9. and
reported that 1) the library system is producing a new brochure
detailing library services, 2> a janitorial workshop was held.
3) the Cupertino library/City Hall re-opening celebration will
be held on April 16, and 5) it is time for Commissioners to re-
register with Ca1Tac.

Carolyn King informed the Commission of the status of the work
being done by the City Enginlyeering Department to identify the
locations of public telephones in the City. Recommendation on
locations where telephones should be added should be available
in a few months.
Marilyn Kanemura. hair
Marilyn Kanemura reported on her contacts with members of the
Friends of the Library, and suggested she write a letter
encouraging the Friends to have a member of their Board attend
Commission meetings. She will also invite Friends President
Gladys Armstrong to speak. at the February Commission meeting.
