SARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION
MEETING
JUNE 25, 1986
I. Meeting convened at7:32 FM
II. Gommissianera Present: Ghair Kanemura, Dyer, Newby, Woad
Library Staff Preaent: Susan Fuller, County Librarian; Lois Thomas,
Saratoga Librarian
City Staff Present: Joan Pisani
III. Minutes of May 28, 1986 meeting approved as read.
IV. A. OLD BUSINESS:
A. Saratoga Community Budget.FY '86/'87
1. Saratoga CityCouncil Con June 4) allocated X14,490 far
Sunday hours i.e. 35 Sundays from Sept 14, 1986 to May
14, 1987.
2. Monte Sereno City Council Con June 17, 1986) allocated
~iS00 for Library support. M/S/C Dyer/Wood that the money
be uaeci for Sunday haursC4 Sundays) May 24, 1987 thru
June 14, 1987. Since this leaves same costa for the 4th
Sunday uncovered. The County Library budget will absorb
this. This amount is approximately :156.
3. Chair Kanemura wrote letter of thanks before election to
all Saratoga City Council members and City Manager
Peacock. Will send similar letter to Monte Sereno City
Council and City Administrator Wimberley.
B. Library Commissioners Joint Meeting--Gilroy, Aug 2, 1986

V. NEW BUSINESS
A. Minutes Caunty Lib Gomm and other County Lib Commissions will be
kept on file at Saratoga LibCthree months each).

B. Videotapes coming Sept or Oct: Fuller
1. All S.C. County libraries (except Morgan Hill 6 Loa Altos)
joined circuit. Will furnish 50 VCR cassettes each lib, each
month. Initial charge 51400 per lib. No rental fee. Stiff
overdue fine. 48 hr borrowing period. The 50 cassettes will
be rotated monthly. Media Committee, SC County Lib to select
cassettes.
C. CALTAC Annual Award:
1. Kanemura advocates nomination of Friends of Saratoga Libraries
again this year.
D. LEGISLATION: Kanemura
1. SB 2493CLibrary Construction Bond Act of 1986) to be
considered in Assembly Ways and Means 7/2/86. Urged to phone
C446-4114) Assemblyman Konnyu 22nd Dist. or write (456 El
Pnaeo De Saratoga, San Jose, CA 95130) to vote YES on this
bill. Also, phone Governor C916-445-2$41 to support bill.
VI. MONTHLY REPORTS
A. Caunty Library Budget:Fuller
1. County Supvr Budget Study Session 6/23/86 Supervisors agreed
to include in the County budget funding of County Lib overhead
from General Fund. They also agreed to include the Cupertino
Library lease. Ok'd Loa Altos Joint Powers issue. Fuller to
report in Sept re part-time positions at Lib HD.
2. Milpitas will fund 40 Sundays.
B. City Council Observers:
1. June 4 -Dyer; June 18 -Kanemura; July 2 - Kanemura, will make
report to Council.
C. Saratoga Library:Thomaa
1. 16,916 patrons have registered for new library cards for use
with microcomputer circulation system since 4/1/86
D. City Rep:Pisani
1. Berms in parking area hav® b®®n painted to r®flect light at
night. Rocky will fill unfinished berme. Possibly youth
groups will weed patio and parking areas.
