Lois Thomas. Susan Fuller, County Librarian Joan Pisani . 4 meeting were approved as read. I. OLD BUSINESS A. Joint Subcommittee on Library Financing. Kanemura & Morrison. 1. "Itemized Costs of Library Services, 1985/86" distributed for information to Library Commission. a. Susan Fuller to provide further breakdown of costs, especially for technical processing. 2. Meeting of Joint Subcommittee was held on January 6. a. Salary and benefits. Pisani. (Personnel & Financial Charts) b. Optimum staff, hours, service levels. Kanemura & Morrison. c. Fixed expenses, utilities, landscaping, etc. De Carion. e. Legal questions. Peaea-ck. 3. Issues to be studied furthers a. Pli.nding. b. Transferal issue. County Library to City Library. c. Intangibles. vantages and. disadvantages. Level of service. d. Legal questionf who owns book collection. 4. Andy Beverett has taken place of Wil Morrison on subcommittee. 5• Next meeting: February 6. B, Library exterior to be water blasted and given coat of clear sealant. Vote taken by Library Commission agreeing to above. 1. Marilyn Kanemura requested that the County Library put the cost of resealing the building within the next 3 to 5 years in its long range budget. II. NEG~ BUSINESS A. Priorities to be worked tow~-di Kanemura & commissioners. 1. Continued positive communication with City Council. 2. Minding for Sunday hours. 3. Winding for longer hours, i.e. add 9 hours to present total of 55 hours per week. 4. More books . ,~. Landscaping (including wesding~ Dick Dyer proposed by Library Commission as consultant to City Parks Department for Library grounds. 6. Videotape collecti©~. B. Request by Friends of Saratoga Libraries to Rotary Club for financial help in purchasing the Book Boa. Pat Mahler. 1. Due to lack of funds the request was denied, C. Commissioner Mahler asked to have Friends consider requesting seed money from Rotary for start of rental videotape collection. D, Meeting of all County Library Commissioners at the Campbell Library on Saturday, April 19, 10 A. M, to 12:00. Discussion of statements made 1n article appearing in the S~,Z;~Oaa News, 12/25/85. 2. County Library Commission to meet February 3, 70 W. Redding, San Jose, 7s3o P. M. All county library commissioners invited to attend. a. A preliminary look to be given of five year revenue and projected budget plan covering the entire county library system. 3. The "Public Library Funding Bill" is in the governors budget for 20,000,000. Senator Jim Nielson (A) Chico, is carrying the bill. Library Commission will request that Council write to Governor and Legislature advocating ~ funding of Public Library Fund at X31 million which would add another X200,000 to county library revenues. 4. Susan Fuller has met with Barry Peacock, and Don Wimberly, Monte 3ereno City Engineer/Administrator. B. Saratoga Community Library Supervisor, Lois Thomas. 1. Vicky Xaleikau has returned from leave for surgery. 2. The work room has had a general clean-up since the bar coding operation has been finished. 3. A GATE COUNT sheet was distributed giving the average number of patrons per day of the week in October, November & Dec.1985 C. City Staff 13epresentative, Joan Pisani. 1. Lights in parking area. a. Delay due to wrong pattern for cement forms for light standard bases were sent to contractor. 2. Berms will be filled in after light standards are in place. 3. Orchard upkeep. New year's contract with orchard lesee will be changed to assure improvement in maintenance. 4~. February 18, Tuesday, City Council to meet with chairmen of all city commissions.
