Report on CALTAC Meeting, 16 November in Oakland. Kanemura, Mahler, T~rrison, and Wood. B. 8eport on Joint subcommittee on Library Financing. Kanemura, Morrison and Newby. 1. Have met once with Dave DeCarion, Harry Peacock and Joan Pisani. a. sub~ects considered: (1 salary and benefits. Pisani. (2) Optimum staff, hours, service levels. The formation of a county-wide task force to study long-term library funding is not planned at this time. E. Public Library Funding. 3txsan Fuller. 1. A representative of sally $eed~s, the Budget Analyst, and Susan Fuller meet regularly to work toward "full funding". 2. The "Public Library $111" would bring the county library between X200,000 and X300,000 if passed. The Legislature indicates strong support for the bill. However, it will take more than this bill•,to shore up the financial base of . California public libraries. ITT. NEW e~slNESs A. Videotape Collection. 1. Suggestion Made by Kanemura, Newby and Morrison to study establi$h~.ng a collection of videotapes. Could start with a one-time grant, with rental fees to add new tapes. 2. Susan Fuller: "How can we try it out in some of the county libraries?" 3. Andy Beverett requested that the Friends of the Library through their president, Commissioner Pat Mahler, approach the Saratoga Rotary Club on the matter. B. Request to be made that a copy of their minutes of each meeting be sent to the Saratoga Library Commission. 2. Motion made by Dave Newby, seconded by Wil Morrison: "That a representative from the County Library Commission be invited to our January 22 or February 27 meeting". Letter to be sent to Fritz Knipe, Chairman. D. The apricot orchard surrounding the city buildings and the library does not present a clean and xell-kept appearance... Andy Beverett. IV. REPORTS A. County Librarian Susan Fuller. 1. The Los Altos tax over-ride passed in November by 70~. 66 2/3 ~ was needed. It is a five year agreement. A. A "Joint Powers Body" made up of members from Los Altos and Los Altos Hills 1s the legal administrator. B. Pat Johnson spearheaded the drive. A packet of materials 1s available regarding the campaign and has been requested by Lois Thomas. 2. The exterior of the Saratoga Library will be iven a long needed coat of natural sealant. The cost 20,000 will be paid by the County Library. B. Saratoga Community Library Supervisor, Lois Thomas. 1. Personnel A. Vicky Kaleikau will be out 4-6 weeks for surgery. B. Judy Thompson is filling in for Jill Lakstigala. C. Nancy Pifer, Campbell Librarian, is assisting Saratoga Library by doing the book selection. 2. The gate count for Sunday, November 24, was 442.
