~-- • 3ARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION M~:ETING 24 JULY, 1985 Commissioners Present: Beverett, Dyer, Kanemura, 1~orrison, Newby & Wood. Library Staff Presents Lois Thomas. Janice Yee, Acting County Librarian. City Staff Present s Joan Pisani. Called to Orders Marilyn Kanemura, Chairman. Community Room, 7s3~ P•M Minutes of June 26 meeting were corrected. Joan Pisani. 1~ 'City Council has approved the spending of X28,339 for the expansion, resurfacing and religning. Money will come from the Library's Bond Fund, and will leave X4,161 in the account. The lights were removed from the bid and will be financad along with other city projects. 2. Joan Pisani and Lois Thomas will meet with Cushman Construction repreaentative to recommend best days and hours for closing the parking lot for resurfacing and relining. B, STUDY SESSION ON LIBRARY FINANCING. Janice Yee. 1~ter in-depth report, dated July 17, addressed to Mayor Clevenger and the Library Commission, was the basis bf the disoussion which served to clarify the financial situation. a. Some points brought out in the discussions (1) That Saratoga does not contribute 1794 of the total propert tax revenues to the library. The correct amount i~ 9.7~. (2) A11 SOAP monies from Saratoga are assigned back to the Saratoga Library. (3) According to the formulas Saratoga gets 13,E of the ~t~~ffing money but its assessed valuation is only 9.4~. (4~ Is Saratoga getting back at least as much in funding ~s it pa,~s to the county? Y®s. Substantially more. 2. Council approved parking lot contract. 7/17/85 2. Council memhsrs.eapressed concern about safety in the parking lot until the lights are operating. 7/17185 3. Possibility of cable drop (Hearst Cablevision) to be utilized by library 1n the future was proposed by Library Commission Chairman Kanemura. 7/17/85 B. Acting County Librarian, Janice Yee. 1. Loe Altos and Los Altos Hills ap roved the creation of a new librarny agency to sponsor a ~36 annual taz program to raise ~i50-, 000 flyer 5 years . 2. The county employees strike was settled. Librarians received a 13.5 realignment. Admission Day and Lincoln's Birthday will become floating holidays for county employees. 3. August 3 will be the last day for the county to post revenues. C. Saratoga Community Library Supervisor, Lois Thomas. 1. The magazine display shelving, given by the F'rienda of the Library, will be installed on Monday, July 29. 2. Four Korean workers are now paging (shelving books each week day for four hours each. They are funded through the federal agency NOVA. 2. Sunday services will start September 15. Hours: 12:00--4:00 P. M. D. City Department Representative, Joan Pisani. 1. Interviews are being held for the position of city manager. The meeting was adjourned at 9:52 p. M.
