HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-23-1984 Library Commission Minutesr • SARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING 23 May 1984 Commissioners Present: Beverett, Kanemura, Morrison, Moss & Wood Library Staff Present: Barbara Campbell City Staff Present: Joan Pisani The May 23, 1984 meeting of the Saratoga Library Commission was called to order by Chairman Moss at 7:35 p.m. in the Community Room of the Saratoga Library. The minutes of the Mar. 28, 1984 meeting were read and approved. Commissioner Beverett related the concerns of some Saratoga resi- dents and Council members that Saratoga's library was not getting its full share of property tax revenues earmarked for library operations. Letters to the City Council from Saratoga residents requesting longer hours of operation and Sunday library service were distributed to Commission members. Barbara Campbell discussed the county library system's budget process, describing the formula used to determine each library's share of the library revenues. She will continue to explain the budget process to the Commissioners at their June meeting. Ms. Campbell also reported that the county is considering the different options for reducing Saratoga Library's 1984-85 revenue deficit, including closing the Reference desk at intervals, re- scheduling personnel, and cutting the Library Assistant position. Joan Pisani reported on the City Council's study session on May 28th to consider the capital impzovements budget. At that meeting the Commission's request to use library bond funds to finance construction of additional parking spaces will be discussed. Bob Shook will describe to the Council the parking lot design recommended by the Commission. Chairman Moss will send a written statement to the Council noting the Commission's unanimous approval of the project. To answer a question posed at the March Commission meeting, Ms. Campbell reported that $275 was collected from fees charged to Community Room users.
