SARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION
MEETING
28 March 1984
Commissioners Present: Kanemura, Morrison, Moss & Wood
Library Staff Present: Barbara Campbell & Lois Thomas
City Staff Present: Joan Pisani
City Council Present: Marty Clevenger
The March 28, 1984 meeting of the Saratoga Library Commission was
called to order by Chairman Moss at 7:40 p.m. in the Community
Room of the Library. The minutes of the Feb. 29, 1984 meeting
were read and approved.
Commissioners discussed projects requiring allocation of bond
funds: 1) remodeling of the interior wall to allow for visibility
of the restrooms; 2) replacement of the front doors to provide
ease of access; and 3) construction of additional parking spaces.
Three plans for a parking lot addition were submitted to Commission
members by Bob Shook. Commissioners discussed the different plans
and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Suggestion was
made to extend the parking lot along Saratoga Avenue towards
Sacred Hearts Church.to provide additional parking spaces and
visibility and safety. Joan Pisani was directed to determine
the availability of land on that site and to ask Bob Shook to
draft plans for that option. Commissioners decided to submit a
request for $30,000 to the Saratoga City Council for a parking lot
addition.
Barbara Campbell will report on the County Library's budget at
the Commission's May meeting. A request for $17,800 of revenue
sharing monies will be submitted to the City Manager to maintain
the current level of library services. Requests will also be
submitted to the Monte Sereno City Council, to the County, and to
the Friends of '.the Saratoga Libraries for the same financial support
they provided last year.
Barbara Campbell discussed efforts of the Los Altos Library to
hold a bond election for library funding. She also reported that
the bar codes for the computerized circulation system were in-
correctly printed. Since 88% of the Saratoga Library's books
have already been bar-coded, an interim system will be in effect
until all books are converted to the correct codes.
Lois Thomas announced the library's reception for volunteers on
April 12, 1984.
Reorganization of the Library Commission was rescheduled for the
next meeting, April 25, 1984.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mrs. yl~ril n Kanemura
