SARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION
MEETING
Nov. 30, 1983
Commissioners Present: Beverett, Gandrud, Kanemura, Mahler,
Morrison, Moss, and Wood
Library Staff Present: Barbara Campbell and Lois Thomas
The Nov. 30, 1983 meeting of the Saratoga Library Commission was
called to order by Chairman Moss at 4:55 p.m. in Saratoga Library's
Community Room. The minutes of the Oct. 26, 1983 meeting were
approved as read.
Lois Thomas reported on the installation of the automatic system
for the front doors, mentioning patron approval of the new fixture.
Announcement of the installation and its availability to the handi-
capped and to others needing assistance was sent to the local
newspaper for publicity. Since the sales representative for the
manufacturer implied that the doors would be easier to open manually
with installation of the door system, and since the front doors
do not open manually any easier than before installation, the
contractor will be asked to make the necessary adjustments to ease
the opening of the doors. Payment will be contingent on contract
fulfillment.
Mrs. Thomas reviewed the final draft of the "Five=Year Goals"
with the Commissioners, having incorporated suggestions made by
the Commissioners during the Oct. 26, 1983 meeting. Commission
members approved the final draft.
Barbara Campbell discussed the computerized circulation system
which is scheduled to be online in Fall, 1984. Volunteers and
staff members have begun to bar-code the books in the collection. -
Cost of the software and hardware for the system is approximately
$105,000. The budget will be monitored to ensure accuracy of
cost projections.
The Commissioners discussed attendance at the California Library
Association convention in Oakland on Dec. 3rd-7th.
The next meeting of the Library Commission is scheduled for Jan.
25 ,: 1984.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
Rpe~spectfully submitted,
