The minutes were read and approved. Barbara Campbell has left her position as County Librarian for another responsible position with the County. The Saratoga Library Commission shall miss her but extend congratulations to her through a letter which will be written by Commissioner Kanemura. Janice Yee is temporarily filling in until a permanent replacement is made. The "Role" Committee will make a statement of Basic duties and responsibilities of commission to be presented by Commissioner Beverett next meeting. The gift committee has accepted a large framed map of Saratoga from ~7ary Millers the delivery of which has not yet been made due to the theft of the City's truck. Lois Thomas and Commissioner Kanemura met with Paul Bonet, head librarian at ti~Jest `,Talley College to discuss their hours and availability of the library to Saratoga residents. Their Sunday hours are 1-5 p.m. and though any resident is entitled to a card, the library•s main responsibility is to the students at the college. Their collection also is geared more toward students with a limited number of fiction and best sellers. The t%illage Library Task Force has had considerable in-put as to possibilities of the use of the building, all of which were from non-}prof it organizations, with the exception of one group . Commissioner Gandrud, president of the E~~ends said they are considering an on-going book sale as a possible use of the building. Commissioner Noss, a member of the Task Lorce, says she will report group progress to the commission. Lois Thomas extended an invitation for reb. 2, 1982 to a reception for pillage patrons and former staff. A list of City responsibilities and items to be prioritized by the Commission was presented by Chairman Moss. The City will take care of the delivering of the map and map case from rir. Miller, a "No Bicycles" sign at the base of the front door ramp, the hanging of a large framed diagram of the solar system near the reference desk, the for the kitchen to be installed by the County, the garden weeding and the improv®ment of muffling the noise created by the re-location of the book drop in the community room closet. Of the Eight remaining items (see list) the commission set them in the following order of importance: (1) Improve drainage above storage room door, (2) Install a large sign on street indicating library location,(3) Place benches in garden,with~donations as possible means of covering cost, (4} Obtain shelves for the Comcats in adult and juvenile areas, (5) ti^Tiden driveway.(6) Extensions • • added between panels above fron~°entrance for rain protection, • (7) Place awnings over the book drop area, (8) Install base plates to cover the footing of the front outdoor lights , est. cast $200., The above items are to be paid for from the remaining $43,000, in the building fund and should be presented to the council. Estimates will be made :For these costs and be reported by next meeting. Pat Mahler will look into the possibility of getting volunteer groups ie. scouts or Community Garden Croup to help with the weeding; A possibility for muffling the sound in the book drop would be the use of foam rubber lining; Dan Trinidad will be consulted on the widening of the driveway; A local sign maker will be contacted as to constructing a redwood sign and electricity will have to be exten~dd to the area by the street. The Bookmobile stops are all doing well except the one at Oak Street and Hightway 9 by the Antique store. The Supervisors would like to have a sign placed by the front door indicating the Community Library is a county operated facility. Hand outs included a plan for the expenditure of the remaining money from the z%illage Library, $5,909., which includes cassettes, reference books, new fiction and non-fiction; a children's services annual report ; a 1981-82 Library materials budget. The next meeting will not be until March unless Chairman ~9oss deems it necessary to meet earlier.
