Call to Order 7:05 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Arunkumar, Baker, Brown, Burke, Byrne, El-Diwany, Gupta, Maltiel, Pramanik, Rezaii, Schwartz, Sclavos, Shepherd, Wu. All present except El-Diwany and Wu. 3. Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the agenda for this meeting was properly posted on November 3, 2004. 4. Accept Agenda Items and Order: No additional items maybe added pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2. 5. Approval of October Minutes. A. Motion by Byrne B. Second by Schwartz C. All in Favor 6. Oral and Written Communication Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up to three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the matter but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda. - None 7. Old Business A. Albertson's Community Partner Card i. Tum-in sheets B. Appeals i. Update on figures a. $75 increase since last month b. Total: $2,115 ii. Thank You letters C. 10/22 and 10/29 Concerts i. Report a. Attendance on 22°`' = 53 b. Attendance on 29`~ = 55; About 301eft early c. No major problems d. $500 total made ii. Evaluation a. Solution to Students Leaving Early on 29°i: Have the Most Popular Band Play Last iii. Evaluate new policies a. Having Chaperones in addition to Adam proved beneficial iv. Suggestions for improving SYC attendance a. Try to Make shows more enjoyable for YC'ers b. Hold Shows Less Frequently (December show was cancelled) c. Under Consideration: Make 1 hour shifts for YC'ers. v. Over 21 substance abuse policy a. If individual drank elsewhere before coming to the WHH they are still not permitted on the premises and a chaperone will ask him/her to leave. b. Rule of Thumb: No Substance Allowed At All D. Dance i. Cost a. Revenue needs to increase b. Vote on Price Increase: Decision = $7/individual - 7 YC'ers far $7 - 2 YC'ers for $10 - 1 abstain ii. Appropriate Dancing a. Freaking will be formally defined by the dancing committee b. A sign defining freaking will be posted at the dance iii. Dress Code Enforcement (Covering tee-shirts) a. Inappropriate Attire: Strapless, Belly-button showing, Too short of skirt b. Will be enforced by Schwartz and Burke at next dance c. If girls are wearing bulky sweat-shirts that maybe concealing inappropriate attire, they will be asked to remove the sweat-shirt. If they refuse, they will be asked to leave or they may have their parent bring them other clothes to change into. iv. Rules Posters for Freaking and Attire v. ID Enforcement (Adam) vi. Tuesday, Nov. 23 ii. Plans/Meeting Time? 6:00 p.m. iii. Flyers were distributed to YC'ers to passing out F. Winter Fest (part of Music Fest Committee) i. Date - 2/25 ii. Forrnat a. 5-6 bands at community center b. Price: Initially intended to be $7; Now, to be determined by costs iii. Goals: To be determined by committee iv. Advertising (tee's, flyers, posters, press releases...) v. Sell food/Vendors 8. New Business A. Upcoming events i. 11/19 Concert a. Advertisement on Teen Page of San Jose Mercury ii. Flyer distribution a. Post at places including: ski shops, coffee shops, Tapioca Express, Libraries, Gas Lighter, Fox Store at Valley Fair, Tower Records, etc. iii. 12/3 Dance B. Teen Inspiration i. Update on possible speakers (likely/possible speakers are bolded): a. Brown: SWAT team member, mayor of San Jose (Ron Gonzales), coach of Futures b. Sclavos: Sharks players, Ronnie Lott, NBC worker c. Maltiel: Disney animator, Earthquakes players d. Byrne: Retired Baseball player e. Burke: Steve Mariuchi, Retired Baseball Player £ Gupta: Pixar animator g. Pramanik: Kerry Welsh, Greg Hourwitz h. Baker: Jeff Hawkins (creator of palm pilot) C. Music Fest i. What is it? ii. Pro's/ Con's a. Cons: Discouraging to do so much work in preparation and have such low attendance; Financial Loss iii. Vote on keeping same format or making some changes. a. Vote to Change b. Suggested Changes - Appeal to Younger Audience with Games/ Activities - Change Name of Event - Include Talent Show, Magic Acts, Breakdancing, Stand-Up Comedy, Dance Routines, Singing Acts, DJ mixing, Professional Venders, End in fairly well-known band (ie: The Donnas or Trapped) - Change of Venue: Hold at Community Center at Night iv. Changes to be decided by Music Fest Committee 9. Group Reports: A. Group Reports i. Teen Inspiration -Lectures that will include following topics literature, politics, hi-tech, sports, FBI (Gupta, Pramanik, Schwartz) ii. Dance- (Sclavos, El-Diwany) a. Meeting Friday 11/19 iii. Concerts - (Brown, Maltiel) iv. Fundraisers- (Wu, Arunkumar) v. MusicFest - (Burke, Rezaii) a. Meeting on Tuesday 11/16 at 5:30 vi. Snowboarding (Byrne, Shepherd) a. Upcoming trips: 2/5, 2/12, 3/5 b. Details/Pass out flyers - $109/day to pay for chaperones, food, gas, driver, lift tickeC - Rent Equipment beforehand - Meet at Community Center at 4:00 a.m. on trip day - 5 hr bus ride (television in bus) c. Prospect Spanish Club May Have Found Cheaper Deal - Around $80 (with lift ticket of ~ $30) - Brown will look into details d. Goal: Bring Price Down to $99 v. Website (Baker, Pramanik) 10.
