A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA
AUTHORIZING A BUDGET INCREASE OF $15,000 FOR
HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF EFFORTS
FUNDED BY A REDUCTION IN THE
CITY COUNCIL CONTINGENCY BUDGET OF $15,000
WHEREAS, the on September 7, 2005 the City of San Jose, the Santa Clara County
Board of Supervisor, and the Santa Clara Valley American Red Cross called upon the cities in
the County of Santa Clara to join them in discussing Humcane Katrina disaster relief efforts; and
WHEREAS, The City of San Jose and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor are
working together to respond to requests from the stated and federal governments to prepare for
receiving evacuees if that becomes necessary; and
WHEREAS, this group is appealing to all cities in Santa Clara County to join them in
assisting this relief effort by contributing $0.50 per resident to the American Red Cross to
support relief and recovery assistance locally; and
WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges that Hurricane Katrina devastated
communities beyond our comprehension. This disaster has affected hundreds of thousands of
people who have suffered the loss of their homes, their communities, and their loved ones; and
WHEREAS, it is the Council's desire to appropriate $15,000 to the Santa Clara Valley
American Red Cross from the Council's Contingency account.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Saratoga hereby authorize the appropriation of $15,000 to be used by the by Santa Clara Valley
American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Saratoga
City Council held on the 21 s` day of September 2005 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Aileen Kao, Nick Streit, Ann Waltonsmith,
Vice Mayor Norman Kline, Mayor Kathleen King
