HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 06-014RESOLUTION NO. 06-014 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA AUTHORIZING A BUDGET INCREASE OF $20,000 FUNDED BY A REDUCTION IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES FUND BUDGET OF $20,000 WHEREAS, on May 4, 2005 the City Council approved the Second Amendment to the Agency Agreement for Countywide Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program that extended the contract one more year; and WHEREAS, due to Citywide budget constraints staff did not recommend any additional funding to this program for FY OS-06; and WHEREAS, City residents have a high level of environmental awazeness which minimizes solid waste tonnage going for disposal, which of course is what the AB 939 solid waste tipping fee is based on; and WHEREAS, the countywide average is roughly 4% of households, historically, 8% of Saratoga households request service; and WHEREAS, Universal Waste (batteries, florescent bulbs, e-waste) were banned by the State Legislature February 9 of this year and will significantly increase the demand for HHW services; and WHEREAS, it is the Council's desire to appropriate $20,000 to the Countywide Household Hazardous Waste Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saratoga hereby authorize the appropriation of $20,000 from the Environmental Services Fund, fund balance to be used to augment the Countywide Household Hazardous Waste program for the remainder of FY OS-06. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regulaz meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the ls` day of March 2006 by the follovring vote: AYES: Councilmembers Kathleen King, Nick Streit, Ann Waltonsmith, Vice Mayor Aileen Kao, Mayor Norman Kline NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ~ /~~ ~/ / Norman Kline;
