A RESOLUTI01~' STATING POLICY AGAINST CALABASAS DAL[
~'~qEREAS~ the City Council is informed and believes that the Santa
C].ara Val.l~'i!~a'ter Conservation District has init~.ated steps tov~ar~]s
th, e construction of an earth-fill dam and reservoir on the Calabasas
Creek at the Pierce Road bridge located approximately ,6 miles be-
low the junction of Pierce ~d l~it, Eden Road~ said. dam to create a
reservoir with a storage capacity of some 5000 acre feet~ and
V~tEREAS~ said proposed Ca!abases Dam and all.. of the proposed
reservoir would be located within the corporate limits of the City' of
Saratoga and would require the complete re-].ocation of a major per-
tion of ~ie:rce Road and the inundation of a number of no~' ex~.sting
residences and the rendering useless of a great number of potential
home sit es ~ and
V~qEREAS~ it is the responsibility of the City Council and of the
Planning Commission of the City of Saratoga to adequately plan for
the best overall land use of the entire area of said City on a long
range basis~ and such a dam and reservoir would remove a vast portion
of highly desirable residential estate lands from their use as such,
become an obstacle to the normal development of the co~mlnity~ be
contrary to the master plan presently in the development stage for
s~id City and might well create traffic and other divers t:~rob!ems
for the C~ty as a whole and the residents thereof~ and
Z~,~tE[::[~ no economic or other need or necessity for said dam
and reservoir at said site has been demonstrated to this Council
which would overshadow or outweigh the objections hereinabove noted
and set forth~
I'.IOW~ IXEi:~EFOI:tE~ BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council.. of the City
o.f Saratoga is opposed to the construction of th.e aforesaid Ca!abases
Dam and reservoir and shall take all reasonable steps indicated as
.necessary to oppose further action towards the construction c.f the same
and to oppose the construction of the ss. me~ and
BE IT F'ORTHEI:', RESOLVED that the Clerk of the City' of Sarato~;,:a is
hereby directed to circulate copies of this Resolution to all Fe~eral~
State and local governmental bodies ila~eres:~d~in or connected with the
aforesaid plan of said Santa Clara Va].]..ey Water Conservation Distri. ct.
The foregoing Resolution vms duly and regular].y introduced and
passed by the CounCil of the City of Sarato~a at a reg. ular meeting held
on the ~~ day of March~ 19~?~ by the following vote:
