Saratoga City Council
Saratoga, California
Gentlemen,
On the weekend of April 19-20, under the sponsorship and
direction of the Sierra Club will be held what may prove to
be one of the largest public service projects in local history.
On that weekend the Sierra Club will attempt to construct
the major part of a hiking trail extending from Stevens Creek
Park to Castle Rock, then on to Big Basin State Park and finally
out to the Pacific Ocean near Ano Nuevo Island.
Volunteer construction crews will consist of members of
the Sierra Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Church clubs, high
school and college students, hiking and riding clubs, and other
interested individuals.
The over-all director will be an engineer of the Department
of Parks and Recreation. Experienced adults will be used as
foremen and group leaders. Doctors and nurses will set up
first-aid stations. Construction teams will be spread out over
the entire route, and it is hoped that by the evening of April 20,
the main part of the trail will be essentially completed.
Since many Saratogans would be interested in such a hiking
trail, and since scenic beauty and its enjoyment are very much
a part of Saratoga's city planning, it seems likely that a large
number of Saratoga people might like to participate.
I would like to ask the City Council to pass a resolution
commending this work and urgeinterested Saratogans to participate.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert Dwyer
