HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 605 RESOLUTION APPROVING INTERIM FEDERAL
AID URBAN SYSTEM AND REQUESTING ADDITIONAL
ROUTES FOR INCLUSION INTO FINAL FEDERAL
AID URBAN SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1970 has authorized
appropriations for expenditure within the designated boundaries
or urbanized areas for street and highway projects on a Federal-Aid
Urban System; and
WHEREAS, a major objective of Congress is to get the new urban
funds in use in the urban areas as early as possible; and
WHEREAS, local agencies are best able to determine and rank
needs on the urban routes within their jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS, because of the short time period and the interim
nature of the initial Federal Aid Urban System, local agencies were
not given the opportunity to suggest additions to the initial Federal-
Aid Urban System; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary for local agencies to approve a
Federal-Aid Urban System in order to make it eligible for Federal-
Aid Urban funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Saratoga
approves the interim Federal-Aid Urban System within its jurisdiction
as delineated in RED on the attached map; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Saratoga does hereby
request that the interim FAU System be amended to include the addi-
tional routes as designated in YELLOW on the attached map in
the final Federal-Aid Urban System within its jurisdiction since
these additional routes are routes which have previously been deter-
mined to be appropriate for expenditures of highway funds, and current
administrative regulations have restricted the interim FAU System in
California primarily to State freeways, expressways and highways, thus
diminishing the ability of local agencies to participate fully in the
FAU Program.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted on the
