A ~SOL~ION OF T~ CITY CO~CIL OF
H CI~ OF S~~ CO~NDING

WHEREAS, after thoughtful and extensive consideration of a number
of qualified citizens, the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, on the advice
of a specially appointed connnittee of Saratoga residents, has selected
Mrs. Lois Burke "1973 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR"; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Burke has been accorded this honor for her active
participation in a breadth of community activities including her
organization of the first Welcome Wagon in Saratoga; and
WHEREAS, she served on the Argonaut P.T.A. Board for six years,
including her tenure as President from 1957-68, and the P.T.A. Board
of Redwood School, and was responsible for organizing the Junior Troops
at Argonaut School; and
WHEREAS~ she has further contributed generously and unselfishly
of her time to the Children Home Societyws Oz Auxiliary for over six
yearss during which time she held every major office and volunteered
as chairman of many fund-raising projects, and has opened her home to
a number of foreign children brought to the United States for surgery
under the Stanford Interplast Program sponsored by the Rotary Club;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Saratoga does hereby commend Mrs° Lois Burke for being named
"1973 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR"
and extends its sincere appreciation for the attitude of concern and
involvement she has brought to all the endeavors in which she has
participated.
The above and foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the
City Council of the City of Saratoga at a regular meeting held on the
ls__,_E_t day of May ~ 1974, by the following vote:
