A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
T~ CITY OF SARATOGA COMMENDING
JEROME A. SMITH
FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO ALL SARATOGANS
WHEREAS, Mayor Jerome Ao Smith has recently been elected State Senator for
the 12th District in the State of California; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Smith has served the City of Saratoga as Mayor since his
initial election in April 1972, and as Vice-Mayor from April 1970-1972, and
as an elected councilman since April 1968; and
WHEREAS, he has been a prodigious figure in Santa Clara County in his untiring
efforts to foster closer intergovernmental cooperation through such organizations
as the Local Agency Formation Commission where he served as Chairman, the Planning
Policy Committee where he served as its Chairman, and the Inter-City Council where
he served as President.
WHEREAS, of even greater importance than his considerable individual achieve-
ments at the City and County level, Jerry was most attentive to the concerns of
the individual, and perhaps most noted for his humanistic treatment of all people,
his readiness to listen when someone had a problem, and imbuing a spirit of
cooperation amongst all neighborhoods in the City such that they were able to
recognize the public interest that transcends the private interests; and
WHEREAS, the wise counsel and insight that Mayor Smith contributed to the
decision-making process of the City Council will be sorely missed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga
does hereby extend its thanks and appreciation to Jerry Smith for his years of
devotion to the community, and wishes him its best in the duties, responsibilities
and challenge of his new office.
The above and foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and thereafter
passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Saratoga.
