A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SARATOGA COMMENDING
THE SARATOGA HIGH SCHOOL VARISTY FOOTBALL TEAM
WHEREAS, the Saratoga High School Varsity Football Team has
captured the 1976 Central Coast Section Championship, with a six-
win, zero-loss record, defeating Branham High School 23 to 13,
rolling over Leland High School 17 to 3, and devastating Los Altos
High School 31 to 13; and
WHEREAS, a total of eleven members of this championship
Saratoga High School Football Team were elected to the De Anza
Athletic League' s "All League Team", including Matt Courtney,
Jeff Dennis, Brent Edwards, David Forcier, Mike Heinrich,
Travis Mc Nulty, Pat Mollahan, Courtney Smith, Mike Ward,
Steve Worman, and George Zimmerman; and
WHEREAS, additional acclaim was awarded to Mike Heinrich
being chosen "Most Valuable Player" in league action and "Most
Valuable Offensive Player" in the Central Coast Section Playoffs;
Courtney Smith, who was recognized as "All League Defensive Player"
and "Most Valuable Defensive Backfield Player" in the Central
Coast Section Playoffs, as well as Jeff Dennis and George Zimmerman
who were voted to the All Central Coast Section Team; and
WHEREAS, the inspirational leadership of Head Coach Benny
Pierce, successfully supported by Assistant Coaches Dan Berry,
Ray Goni, and Walt Haniger have guided the Saratoga High School
Team to a fantastic 1976 thirteen-win, zero-loss record;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Saratoga does hereby commend the Saratoga High School
Varsity Football Team for its outstanding accomplishments during
the 1976 season; for becoming the Central Coast Section champions,
and seizing a multitude of Central Coast Section individual honors.
The above and foregoing resolution was adopted by the City
Council of the City of Saratoga at a regular meeting held on
the 19th day of January, 1977, by the following vote:
