A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SARATOGA COMMENDING DON HARRIS
WHEREAS, Don Harris is retiring as the Building Official for
the City of Saratoga on March 1, 1978, which will culminate 15 years
of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, Don has the distinction of serving in his capacity
longer than any Department Head in the history of the City of Saratoga;
and
WHEREAS, during his tenure the Building Department has monitored
and presided over the development of the City from a small town of
about 17,000 people, to a carefully planned, desirable, bedroom community
of over 30,000 residents; and
WHEREAS, among his responsibilities and achievements have been
the oversight of all building activity in the City of Monte Sereno,
serving as prime inspector for the recently completed Saratoga Community
Library as well as the City Hall addition in the mid 1960's, and his
willingness to administer the Swimming Pool Ordinance without request
for hazardous duty pay; and
WHEREAS, Don leaves a legacy that is easy to build on but
difficult to emulate, and will be remembered for his conscientiousness,
his responsiveness to the needs of others, and his budget-consciousness
which ensured that all his department's activities were self-supporting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Saratoga does hereby coymend Don Harris for the years he has
contributed to the Saratoga community in making this a better place
for all of us to live, and wishes him well ~n his future endeavors.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at
a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Saratoga held
on the 15th day of F.~bruary, 1978. by the following vote;
AYES: Councilmen Kraus, Corr, Bridges, & Brigham
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilman Matteoni
