A Resolution Commending
Supervisor Sig Sanchez
WHEREAS, on January 20, 1978, Supervisor Sig Sanchez announced
that he would not be seeking re-election to the First Supervisorial
District where he has served continuously since 1962; and
WHEREAS, this culminates a long and fruitful career in government
which began with his election to the Gilroy City Council in 1953,
followed by his service as Mayor from 1957 to 1962; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Sanchez has served the citizens of Santa
Clara County in manifold ways, initially as a Charter Member of
the Local Agency Formation Commission, actively promoting a viable
public transportation system throughout the County, establishing
himself as an aggressive budget trimmer; and
WHEREAS, Sig is Past President of the County Supervisors
Association of California, currently serves on the CSAC Board of
Directors & Executive Committee, as well as on the National
Association of Counties Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, his retirement draws to a close a distinguished
career in government that spans three decades.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Saratoga does hereby commend Supervisor Sig Sanchez for
his tireless and dedicated service to all the citizens of Santa
Clara County, and wishes him well in all his future endeavors.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Saratoga
held on the 18th day of October , 1978, by the following
vote:
