A RESOLUTIC~ OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARA~ SUPPORTING
AN ~NCREASE ~N GAS TAX '~T.r~CATIONS TO CXT~ES Ah~ OOUNT~ES FOR
~CE OF LOCAL ~ AND SOADS.
WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga and other cities in California face severe
financial restrictions caused in recent years by rapid inflation and imposition
of constitutional limitations on city revenue sources, and;
WHEREAS, by law, city street and road maintenance and improvement expenses
have been funded by State shared gasoline taxes, and;
WHEREAS, the amount of tax for street and road maintenance purposes has
increased by less than 60% in the past eighteen years, while costs of materials,
supplies, and other expenses for road maintenance purposes have increased by
more than 350%, and;
WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga can no longer meet all of its annual and
deferred expenses for maintenance and i~provement of local streets and roads
with the reserves and annual revenues available for this purpose;
NOW, THEREFOPdE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Saratoga favors the allocation of additional gas tax revenues to cities and
counties for street and road maintenance purposes, but does not support increase
in the rate of gas.. tax.
The above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and passed
by the City Council of the City of Saratoga at a regular meeting held on the
] 5~h!_ day of JulV , 1981, by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Clevenger and Watson, Mayor Callon
NOES: Councilmembers Jensen and Mallory
ABSENT: None
