HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1046 RESOLUTION NO. 1046 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA OPPOSING RECENT REDISTRICTING LEGISLATION WHEREAS, the residents of Santa Clara County should have State Senate, Assembly, and Congressional Districts which respect communities' interests; and WHEREAS, said Districts should be compact so as to enhance the ability of legislators to better represent, communicate with, and provide service for these districts' respective constituents; and WHEREAS, the redistricting bills passed by the California Legislature blatantly disregard the above criteria by establishing districts which are geographically far-flung, and which, in the case of the current lOth and 12th State Senate Districts, do not even grant many of the residents of these districts representation for two years. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga does protest the State Senate, Assembly and Congressional redistricting as passed by the California Legislature as not being in the best interests of the residents of the City of "Saratoga and the County of Santa Clara, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of Saratoga encourages the California Legislature to set up a bipartisan commission to deal with redistricting. The above and foregoing resolution was duly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of Saratoga at a meeting thereof held on the 18th day of Novemb:~!r, 1981, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Clevenger, Mallory, Watson, Mayor Callon NOES: Councilmember Jensen ABSENT: None ? .... :~...~.
