Plans for the 1981 KQED Auction are under way, and KQED would
appreciate your support. A donation from you or your city would
help stimulate community participation in the 27th annual Auction,
which will be telecast on Channel 9 May 28th through June 7th.
with the help of 2,500 volunteers, 8,000 donors and close to one
million viewers, KQED hopes to surpass the record one million
dollars raised last year. The funds received from the Auction will
ensure the continuation of quality programming such as "Cosmos, II
"Live from Lincoln Center" and "Sesame Streetll and help to fund
increased coverage of Bay Area local events and presentations.
Possible donations include a key to your city, a personal item for
(which you are noted (Senator Hayakawa usually donates his tam 0'
shanter), something representative of your city or a certificate
lifor an individual to be Mayor for a day. We would like to photo-
\ ~raph you presenting the donation to an Auction representative.
~t/' We would then distribute the photos to the local media. Hopefully,
'I this publicity will prompt others in your community to donate to
\.',.:he Auction.
\,
\\~..,nother way to support the auction is to pass a resolution dec-
~aring the official KQED Auction solicitation days (April 20 -
Àpril 30) to be "KQED Week" in your city. A suggested copy of the
resolution is enclosed. We would also try to get media coverage of
you presenting the resolution to an Auction volunteer.
If we can help you in any way with suggestions, or if you have any
questions please call the Auction office at (415) 553-2153. On
behalf of the staff and volunteers of KQED, thank you for your
continued interest and support of this Bay Area tradition.
Sincerely,
~ "S·.T~
