~ING BARBARA SAMPSON
WHEREAS, Barbara Ssmpson has faithfully and well served the City of
Saratoga for the past nine years and rnw leaves to pursue new directions
WHEREAS, Barbara came to Saratoga in 1973 as the first woman department
head and created a unified Community Services Department; and
WHEREAS, through Barbara' s efforts great improvements were made to
Saratoga' s park system, inct~ing the acquisition and development of
several parks; the restoration of Hakone Gardens; and
WHEREAS, major improvements in the Cc~nunity Center facilities, parti-
cularly a new Senior Center, have been achieved under Barbara' s guidance;
WHEREAS, Barbara has earned the respect and appreciation of many groups
and individuals through her sucoessful coordination of programs, her service
as Secretary to the Parks and Recreation Commission and her dedication
to community betterment; and
WHEREAS, Barbara's interests and achievements have extended to international
projects such as the initiation of an exchange training program for the
Japanese Garden Specialist, the Sister City project, and the formation of
the Saratoga Japan Bamboo Society; and
WHEREAS, throughout, Barbara has always maintained the highest standards
of excellence and diligence, commitment to the public good, dedication
to principles and support of the City and her colleagues.
hDW, THEREEDRE, BE IT RESOLVED, that BARBARA SAMPSON is hereby ~ded
for her service to the City with sincere thanks and appreciation, and
that the City Council, on behalf of the entire csmmunity, wishes her
success, good fortune and satisfaction in the future.
The above ara foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the 20th day of October, 1982,
by unanimous vote.
