RESOLUTION CONCERNING AA~ WEEK
WHEREAS, the American Association of University Women
was formed in 1882 by a group of women college graduates to further
the advancement of women, to discharge their responsibilities to
society, and to enable college women to continue their own intel-
lectual growth, and
WHEREAS, AAUW's aims have exoanded to include a concern
for quality education, which is attested to by their administration
of the largest educational fund of any American women's organization,
and a concern for human and economic rights for all, and
WHEREAS, the membership of AA~ is now made up of 190,000
women from all Dolitical oarties, all walks of life, and all parts
of the country and reaches out internationally through an organ-
ization which has branches throughout the world, and
WHEREAS, local women participate in AA~ through the 420-
member Los Gatos-Saratoga branch, which has members who are active
on school boards, city councils, city and county commissions and
who have been instrumental in the formation and work of local or-
ganizations to serve specific needs in the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that
the week of March 18 to 24 is declared as
AAUWWEEK
in order to recognize the valuable and long-continued contribution
which AAUW has made in the Saratoga area, in California, and
throughout the world. The City Council of the City of Saratoga
~ishes to express appreciation for all that AAUW has done and to
encourage them in their efforts.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the 7th day of March,
1984, by the following vote:
