RESOLUTICN OF THE CITY COINCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA
CCNCERNING AAUW ~
WHEREAS, the American Association of University Wcmen was formed in 1882 by
a group of women college graduates to further the advancement of women, to
discharge their responsibilities to society, and to enable college wtmen to
continue their own intelliectual growth, and
WHEREAS, AAUW's aims have expanded to include a concern for quality education,
which is' attested to by their administration of the largest educational fund
of any American wemen's organization, and a concern for human and econcmic
rights for all, and
WHEREAS, the membership of AAb~q is nc~ made up of 190,000 wnnen from all
political parties, all wars of life, and all parts of the country and reaches
out internationally through an organization which has branches throughout
the world, and -.
WHEREAS, local wcmen participate in AAL~q through the 420-member Los Gatos-
Saratoga branch, which has members who are active on school boards, city
councils, city and county ccmmissions and who have been ins~tal in the
formation and work of local organizations to serve specific'needs in. the
ccnnmnity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that the week of March 3
through March 9 is hereby declared as
in order to recognize the valuable and long-continued contribution which AAUW
has made in the Saratcga area, in 'California, and throughout the world. The
City Council of the City of Saratoga wishes to express appreciation for all
that AAUW has done and to encourage them in their efforts.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting
of the Saratoga City Councils held on the 6th day of March, 1985, by the
following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Callon, Clevenger, Hlava, MDyles and Mayor Fanelli
