WHEREAS, Dr. Paul Collins is retiring as Superintendent of the Los Gatos-
Saratoga Joint Union High School District after serving the District for fif-
teen years, and
WHEREAS, it is now appropriate to review Dr. Collins' contributions to the
District and to the ccmtmunity at large, and
WHEREAS, these contributions include two years as Director of Personnel, one
year as Acting Superintendent, five years as Assistant Superintendent, and
five years as Superintendent, during which he excelled in both innovations and
human relations, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Collins has also been active in the cause of education through
local, state and national associations such as Phi Delta Kappa, CASA, CASSA,
ASCD, CSEA, and CI~, and
WHEREAS, he has also served outside the field of education in various
communities by acting as an officer of such groups as the Rotary Club, Lions
Club, Junior and Senior Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, Christian Church, and
Congress for Community Progress, and
WHEREAS, his concern for the human aspect while not losing sight of the
realities of the times is shown by his having obtained simultaneously degrees
as a bachelor of theology and as a bachelor of science, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Collins' career has been unique in his evident breadth of vision
and the persistence and leadership to bring his visions into reality. In
recent years, these qualities have been brought to b~r perhaps most notably

in his development o the Institute of Computer Technology to provide Silicon
Valley students with high school and college-preparatory courses in this timely
field.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLV~], that
DR. PAUL V. COLLINS
is commended for his many contributions to Saratoga, to the District, and to
Santa Clara County over the last fifteen years, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saratoga City Council, while looking forward
to further service from Dr. Collins as a consultant to the District, hopes and
expects that he will reserve sufficient time to enjoy his hobbies, and
especially to travel to the Amazon to search for opals. With his vision,
persistence, .a~d practical abilities, he will probably find some.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting
of the Saratoga City Council held on the 15th day of May, 1985, by the follow-
ing vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Callon, Clevenger, Hlava and Moyles
