Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, and
W1~REAS, Marion has earned this honor for good and sufficient reasons which
reflect her interest in and commitment to local and international affairs as
well as the family, and
WHEREAS, Marion has participated extensively in international outreach,
including activities such as being a charter founder of the A.F.S. student
exchange program at Saratoga High School, a member of San Jose's Sister City
Program, and Foundlug President of Saratoga Sister City, and welcoming foreign
ex~e students to her home for the past ten years, and
WHI~EAS, she has also maintained an interest in California history by being a
part-time instructor at De Anza College in various aspects of California
history, participating in the Saratoga Historical Society, end being named
ml honorary Trustee of the California History Center Foundation, and
WHEREAS, since joining the American Association of University Women in 1948
she has served in such capacities as board member since 1950 and corresponding
secretary for publicity of the California History Bicentennial, work so
noteworthy that she was an awardee of an AAUW Name Grant, and
krH~, she has satisfied the aesthetic interests evident from her degree in
Art History by membership on the Villa Montalvo Advisory Board, the Artists in
Residence Selection Committee and various Montalvo service group hoards,
atK] as founder/director of the Hakone Gardens Docent Fogran, and
~, Marion has been active in library activities, being a past President
of Friends of the Libraries, and
14I~, Marion has also remained mindful of needs closer to home; her school
activities include being a charter founder of the Saratoga Parent Nursery
School and Past President of Saratoga Elementary School PTA, and
WHEREAS, she has displayed a particular interest in Girl Scouts, perhaps
because she is the mother of four daughters, and has been past neighborhood
Goordtnator of Saratoga Girl Scouts, member of Santa Clara County Girl Scout
Council, and the recipient of a 20 year Girl Scout Service pin, and
WHE~, Marion was elected as first woman member of the Board of Elders at
Saratetra Federated Church and edited the Church Newsletter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that MARION CARD is hereby commended and
thanked most heartily for her public spirit and willingness to give time,
energy and creativity for the good of her community and her neighbors, both
near and far.
The above resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the
Saratoga City Council held on February 18, 1987, by the following vote:
