COMMENDING LOUISE GARROD COOPER
WHEREAS, Louise Garrod Cooper has been named 1989 Saratoga Citizen
of the Year by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, and
WHEREAS, Louise has earned this honor for good and sufficient
reasons which reflect her commitment to local affairs, especially
education, the history of Saratoga, senior interests, and local
agriculture, and
WHEREAS, her work in the area of primary and secondary education
includes serving in many capacities in the Parent-Teachers
Associationl election to four four-year terms on the Los Gatos
Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees; helping to
organize the first Los Gatos-Saratoga PTA District; receiving the
Saratoga P.T.A. Life Membership Award for her outstanding service
to young people; and hosting an American Field Service exchange
student from South America, and
WHEREAS, she has also been active in higher education by serving
since 1983 on the West Valley/Mission College Foundation Board, and
has been the Foundation representative on the annual Olympiad of
the Arts committee; she also serves on a West Valley College
committee for the college's 25th anniversary celebration, and
WHEREAS, she has served senior interests through the Saratoga Area
Senior Coordinating Council as a member of the Board since its
founding in 1979; as both Legislative Chair and Housing Chair, and
WHEREAS, Louise has also served the community at large as a member
of the League of Women Voters and the American Association of
University Women, and
WHEREAS, Louise's family, a part of local agriculture for many
years, have built on their heritage by sharing ranch life with
others, by operating the Garrod stables, and by putting on
barbecues for community groups in their drying shed, and Louise
herself has helped to preserve Saratoga's past by serving as
president of the Saratoga Historical Foundation since 1982.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that LOUISE GARROD COOPER is hereby
commended and thanked most heartily for her public spirit and
willingness to give time, energy and creativity for the good of her
community and her fellow Saratogans.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the
Saratoga City Council unanimously at a meeting held on the 21st day
of February, 1990.
