HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 93-039 RESOLUTION NO. 93-039 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA CONCERNING THE CITY OF HAMBURG, IOWA WHEREAS, the hardship suffered by the people, cities, and villages along the rivers of the midwest caused by floods of 1993 have drawn national attention, and WHEREAS, the National League of cities has asked cities throughout the united states to adopt a midwest city in need, and WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga was fortunate to have escaped major earthquake damage but remains vulnerable to future earthquakes, and WHEREAS, the city of Saratoga is mindful of the aid sent from allover the united states to neighboring cities in need after the earthquake, and WHEREAS, the City of Hamburg, Iowa, has major damage to its infrastructure (parks, sewer system, roads, etc.) and to the homes of its residents, and WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga and the people of Saratoga, by and through the unanimous vote of the City Council, wish to aid the City of Hamburg. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the city of Saratoga that the City of Saratoga adopts hereby the City of Hamburg as its sister city for purposes of fundraising among its citizens, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Saratoga appoints Karen Ander- son to chair the fundraising efforts to provide building materials, toys, and funds for reconstruction of the City of Hamburg, Iowa, after the flood of 1993. Donations may be sent to "Flood Fund," Saratoga National Bank, 12000 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road, Saratoga CA 95070. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the Saratoga City Council at a meeting held on the 1st day of September, 1993, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Anderson, Burger, Kohler, Monia and Mayor Tucker NOES: None ABSENT: None Isl Karen Tucker Mayor ATTEST: Isl Grace E.
