HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 94-07 RESOLUTION NO.94_07 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAE%TOGA IN SUPPORT OF THE SCHOOL/COMMUNITY YOUTH SAFETY TASK ?ORCE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE "ZERO TOLERANCE" PROGP3~ WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga believesa safe environment Tor our youth in school and in the community is essential, and youthfu violence is increasing both in quantity and severity; and WHEREAS, the cities of Cupertino, Los Altos, Saratoga, an Jose, and Sunnyvale, and the Cupertino Union, Montehello, Sunnyval~ Elementary, and Fremont Union High School districts are involved in a ~Dollaborative effort to maintain a safe, nurturing environment for our youth; and WHEREAS, the School/Community Youth Safety Task Force's Durpose is to implement the ZERO TOLERANCE program which strives to ~liminate the possession of weapons by youth on school campuses and in zhe community thus decreasing the potential for violence; and WHEREAS, the School/Community Youth Safety Task Force as two major goals, prevention and intervention, with students, pare]its, schools, communities, and the juvenile justice system; and WHEREAS, through the combined effort of our school districts and cities, we will seek other solutions to recently increasing youth safety issues; and WHEREAS, the month of January 1994 is declared as the official opening month of the School/Community Youth Safety Task Force pr~)gram. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Saratoga supports the School/Community Youth Safety Task Force in conjunction ~ith the ZERO TOLERANCE program, and shall continue to work actively ~;ith parents, community, and other districts and communities to ins'are that the incidence of youth involvement with weapons on school ca]npuses and in the community are reduced to ZERO and that programs or a,~tivities are continued or instituted which provide students with the .~nowledge and skills to solve problems effectively and deal with~ conflict in acceptable ways. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and ad,~pted by the Saratoga City Council at a meeting held on the 2nd day of February, 1994, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Anderson, Burger, Kohler, Monia and Mayor T~cker NOES: None ABSENT: None ' ~ ~ Mayor ATTEST: Deputy Cit~ferk
