WHEREAS, Paul Bowlin has been named 1993 Saratoga Citizen of the Year
by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, an honor he was accorded for
good and sufficient reasons which reflect his commitment to the City
of Saratoga, and
WHEREAS, among the most striking of those reasons is Paul's eight-
year involvement in the Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council,
which began with his assisting in a computer purchase, extended to
training the staff to use them, then led to his becoming Finance
Chair, Board Member, and President of SASCC, and
WHEREAS, Paul has also spent many years as a member and/or officer
of such civic-minded groups as the Saratoga Men's Club, the Good
Government Group, Los Gatos-Saratoga League of Women Voters, and
Sons in Retirement, and
WHEREAS, as a retired pilot for Pan American Airways, Paul has
enjoyed travel for many years and has visited nearly every part of
the world, particularly the Far East, and
WHEREAS, Paul brought back to Saratoga his interest in the wider
world by supporting over the years the Japan Bamboo Society; the
Sister City Committee, which whom he made two trips to Japan; and the
Hakone Foundation, as a Trustee and liaison to the City, and
WHEREAS, Paul is also active in Saratoga Federated Church, where,
among other things, he served on the fundraising committee to build a
new sanctuary, and
WHEREAS, Paul also finds the time to maintain a well-balanced life by
playing tennis, pursuing genealogical research, going on cruises,
and traveling to the far reaches of the earth, and
WHEREAS, Paul has reached that gratifying point in life where he can
participate in fifty-year celebrations such as his fiftieth reunion
at Tulsa University, the Fiftieth Reunion of Tulsa Central High
School, the Fiftieth Reunion of the Army Air Corps, and most
important, his fiftieth wedding anniversary, which he and his wife,
Dorothy, celebrated in 1991.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that PAUL BOWLIN is hereby commended
and thanked most heartily for his public spirit and willingness to
give time, energy and creativity for the good of his community and
his fellow Saratogans.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Paul and Dorothy may continue to fly
through many more blue skies during their busy retirement.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the
Saratoga City Council at a meeting held on the 18th day of May, 1994,
by the following vote:
