Chairman Webster stated the reason for the special meeting - a
public hearing on a use permit application by Santa Clara Sand and
Gravel Co. to operate a quarry.
After asking if th~ applicants or their representativewere present
Chairman Webster recessed the meetinE at 7:41 P.M. for 15 minutes or
until the proponents appeared whichever was first.
Chairman Webster called the meeting to order at 7:44 P.M.
Mr. John Brethauer, attorney for the Santa Clara Sand and Gravel
-Company gave a history of the case and explained the court de-
cision. He stated further that the applicant was willing to con-
form to the conditions set by the court if they were included in
the use permit.
At the request of Chairman Webster 49 persons stood as being op-
posed to these permits. The following opponents spoke: Mr. W. A.'
Thomas, Via Regina, Mr. Russel Pierce, Gaspar Court, Mrs. Redd,
Via Regina, Mrs. Richard Warfield, Pierce Road, Mrs. Nelson, Pierce
Road, Mr. Meyer, representing owners of Saratoga Country Club,
Mr. John Barron, Pierce Road, Mr. Moeggerath, Pierce Road, Mr. J. D.
Jedlicka, Pierce Ro~d, Mr. William ~,~thews, Pierce Road, Mrs. Robert
Keller, Pierce Road, Mrs. Beth McLa~Ehlin, Via Regina, Mr. Thomas
Lydon, Via Regina, Mrs. Ray, ~srce Road, Dr. Broemser, Saratoga
Hills Road, Mrm. Fay Hendricks, Pierce Road, Mrs. ~ase, Mt. Eden
Road, Mr. Frank R. A~erbach, Pierce Road, Dr. Case, Mt. Eden Road,

Mr. Angelo Rudotti, Stevens Creek Road spoke about quarry op-
erations in his area.
Chairman Webster referred the matter to a special committee
composed of:n Commissioner Anderson, Commissioner. Tiffany,
Commissioner Webster, Chairman, for further study, on the spot
observation and consultation with the City Attorney. This
committee is to report back to the next regular meeting of the
planning commission on October 27, 1958 with at least an interim
report.
Public hearing was closed at 9:20 P.M. Commissioner Anderson
moved for adjournment at 9:21 P.M. Commissioner Tiffany seconded
it. Carried unanimously.
