Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly
posted on February 21, 1997.
Commissioner Sessler made a motion to approve the minutes ()~,
t~e Janua. ry 22, 1997 meeting. Commissioner Towse seconded ~he
motion and the motion carried. (4/0)

Commission requested that all Commissioners forward their
comments regarding the various library tours to Commissioner
Grantham who would De compiling the information ~n some
reportable forma~.

Commissioners a draft packet ~nat would De delivered to the
city Council at their next Council meeting. The packet
include a Library expansion timetable, a list of the agencies
and individuals who would comprise t~]e library expansion
committee, a revised copy of the Request For Proposal (RFP),
a list of architects who would receive t~e RFP and a cover
letter from Marcia on behalf of the Commission explaining %l~e
status of the library expansion efforts.
Commissioner Towse made a motion to accept the preliminary
library expansion timetable with corrections. Commissioner
Sessler seconded the motion and the motion carried. (4/0)
After discussion revolving around the proposed Library
Expansion Committee Commissioner Foscato made a motion to
accept the proposed list with the changes that ~ad been
recommended during the discussion. Commissioner Sessier
seconded the motion and the motion carried. (4/0)
Commissioner Sessler made a motion to approve the revised
version of the RFP with the recommended changes. Commissioner
Foscato seconded the motion and the motion carried. (4/0)
Commissioners recommended that the cover memo to the Council
should spell out that the recommendation from the Library
Commission is to hire only one architect hired for the entire
project. Also, it was decided that the memo should also
indicate that the city would be the hiring authorit'? of the
architect.
The issue of the campaign coordinator would be (~iscussed in
further detail at the March meeting and in preparation for
that, staff was requested to provide Commissioners with a list
of past library commissioners as a brainstorming tool in the
March packet.
Arrangements were made and there was discussion regarding The
upcoming visits to the Pleasanton and Danville librriries on
March 1, 1997.

Commission the various activities being proposed to the county
regarding new locations in addition to relocations to library
branches. The cities of Gitroy and Morgan Hill are ~]lso
planning expansions to their libraries and Cupertino is
looking into the possibility.

the long awaited improvements to the bookdrop had been
completed. The library also has new terminals for patron use.
She reported that the circulation for January had been Yl,500
with the next closest recorded high having been 64,000.

Marcia Manzo reported that she had received an applicat.lon
from the Rotary Club to request that a digital communicator t>e
added to the library's sprinkler system that would allow for
the Fire Station to be automatica~.ly notified should the
system be activated.

gave the Commission an update on issues relating to the city's
budget and pending reorganization.

reported that ~he Book-Go-Round made a $6,000 profit in
January. She also reported that it was a growing perception
from the Friends of the LiOrary that they snoula nave some o~
the additional space from the library expansion reserved for
the Friends of the LiDrary and their fundraising efforts.

and Commissioner Towse seconded the motion. ]'he motion
