Call to Order Meeting called to order at 7:40 p.m. II. Roll Call Commissioners Present: Foscato, Gipstein, McLaughlin, Manzo, O'Donnell, Sessler, Towse III. Report on Posting of the Agenda Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on 4/20/99. IV. Approval of Minutes of March 24, 1999 Commissioner Sessler moved to approve the minutes of March 24, 1999, with minor corrections. Commissioner Towse seconded the motion and it passed 7/0. V. Old Business a. Library Optimization Update - D. Barnes · Commission toured Library. New shelves installed. Large Type, Videos, CDs moved. · Waiting for reports from Lighting and Acoustic Consultants. b. Speakers' Bureau Update · Commissioners Towse, McLaughlin, and Chair Manzo successfully used outline for a presentation at the April 12' Friends' Annual Meeting. · J. Farnsworth and D. Barnes will develop a Power Point Presentation to be used in conjunction with script for community awareness campaigns. Vl. New Business a. City Manager/Library Commission Chair/Community Library Meeting Update · Chair Manzo reported to City Manager that a Campaign Consultant has been interviewed for the Library 2000 Bond Issue. · Chair Manzo impressed upon City Manager the importance of repairing the library hardscape deficits prior to the special event in June. · City Manager discussed interfacing with West Valley College. VII. Reports a. Julie Farnsworth, County Librarian All Commission Meeting Councilmember Bogosian recognized Saratoga's Friends group as the best in the county. Jim Givens commended Saratoga Library staff. · JPA remains concerned about Intemet Access and pornography. To be discussed at the June 3, 1999, JPA meeting.. · County's Building Policy being reviewed. Architect's funding is secure at this time · State Library Funding Bond Issue in legislature. May be on November 1999 ballot. b. Dolly Barnes, Community Librarian · Children set a fire near library on April 22, 1999. Janitor extinguished. Fire and Sheriff responded and will follow-up, i.e. discipline. · Adult author series scheduled in May1999. c. Marcia Manzo, Library Commission Chair · Commissioner McLaughlin resigned as of April 30, 1999, due to relocation. City Council will present proclamation in his honor on May 5, 1999. · Raising the Roof Update Invitations to be sent. Artwork unveiled. d. Lori Bums, City Staff Representative · Pins presented to newly appointed Commissioners. Senior Commissioners reported they did not receive pins - Lori will follow up. · Volunteer did gardening work in courtyard. e. Janet McLaughlin, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries · Distributed written report. Janet received accolades from Commission for a job well done as she is relocating and will not be representing Friends effective April 30, 1999. f. Sally Towse, Library Foundation · Donations are being received to seed the Raising the Roof event. VIII. Oral and Written Communication IX. Adjournment Commissioner O'Donnetl made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Commissioner Gipstein seconded the motion. The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. (7/0).
