Call To Order Meeting called to order at 7:32 p.m. II. Roll Call Commissioners Present: Manzo, McLaughlin, Sessler Commissioners Absent: Foscato, Towse Others Present: Dolly Barnes, Lori Burns, Susan Fuller, Janet McLaughlin, Dave Bethel, Thomas Blaisdell, Ruth Gipstein. III. Report on Posting of the Minutes Pursuant to Government code 54954.2 the agenda was properly posted on June 10, 1998. IV..Approval of Minutes of April 20, 1998 Meeting Commissioner Sessler made a motion to approve the minutes of April 20, 1998. Commissioner McLaughlin seconded the motion and the motion carried. (3/0) V. Old Business a. Review Library Consuitant's preliminary report. Prepare for his presentation on Monday, July 20. Discussed postponing Mr. Rohlf's presentation. Commissioner McLaughlin moved to tentatively schedule Rohlf's presentation in September 1998. Commissioner Sessler seconded motion. Motion carded (3/0). b. Jan Stypula Correspondence Chair Manzo will inform L. Perlin, City Manager, and Jan Stypula, Spencer Associates, that Commission will not respond to invoice, as directed by Councilmember Bogosian. VI. New Business a. Distribution of condoms from library bathrooms. Commissioner McLaughlin made a motion recommending condoms not be distributed from library bathrooms. Commissioner Sessler seconded the motion and it carried. (3/0) b. Commissioner Grantham's resignation and recruitment for his replacement. Recruitment underway. VII. Reports a. Susan Fuller, County Librarian Gay Strand was hired on 7/6/98 by the county to assist with fiscal operations. Filters will be installed on computers located in the Children's rooms. Cupertino's library expansion has a favorable outlook. Morgan Hill is considering library expansion with redevelopment funding. Gilroy and Milpitas are exploring new library building plans. b. Dolly Barnes, Commnnity Librarian Children' s Summer Reading Program has hundreds of registered participants. A Countywide committee is assessing what statistics are being collected and to what end. c. Marcia Manzo, Library Commission Chair Commissioner Ceppos resigned on June 22. Current recruitment will continue until enough qualified candidates are secured. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries have stated one of its goals is to raise community awareness o f the current library's status. Chair Manzo suggested the Saratoga Library Commission consider hosting a county-wide commission meeting this fall. Topic: Library Expansion. Possible Format: Key Note Speaker, Small Group Discussion, Lunch. Possible Speakers: Richard Hall, Bob Rohlf d. Lori Burns, City Staff Representative Will research jurisdiction over space usage within library building. Landscaping and outside seating discussed briefly, then tabled until July meeting. e. Janet McLaughlin, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Gave financial report. Friends continue to be riscally sound and membership continues to grow (1,051 members). The newsletter will be published quarterly and will be expanded to eight pages. f. Sally Towse, Library Foundation No report. Absent. VIII. Adjournment Commissioner McLaughlin made a motion to adjoum the meeting and Commissioner Sessler seconded the motion.
