Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. iI. Roll Call Commissioners present: Krezek, Martini, Peacock, Towse Commissioners absent: Brenner, Newby, Watkins III. Report on Posting of Commission Agenda P~rsuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda for this meeting was properly posted on September 18, 1992. Approval of Minutes of Auuust 26. 1992 The minutes were approved as submitted. New Business A. Discussion of Public Opinion Survey for Library Commissioner Fran Krezek reported that the agreement with Riple¥ Associates for architectural services for the Library expansion project was not approved by Council at the September 16 Council meeting due to the budget situation. She added that Council directed staff to work with the Library Commission to survey the Community in order to assess the urgency for the expansion and the Community's willingness to pay for the expansion project. Krezek explained that she and Commissioner Watkins met with the City Manager for further direction regarding the survey, She then reviewed the information prepared by Watkins regarding the planning and coordination of a survey. The Commission members discussed the information presented to them and decided that it would be necessary to meet before the next regular meeting on October 28. Staff representative Karen Campbell was requested to schedule a study session during the week of October 12th. VI. OldBuS!hesS A. Impact of State Budget Cuts on Library Services County Librarian Susan Fuller reported on the impact of the budget cuts on Library Services. She noted that the County Library system budget will be reduced by $1.6 million to compensate for State engendered losses. She noted that 27% of this amount would be from the book budget and the remainimg amount from salaries. She discussed the County's proposal to close Alum Rock Library in order to minimize the losses to other cities' services. She noted that if Alum Rock were closed, Saratoga would not lose hours; however, if Alum Rock remained open, Saratoga's loss would be two hours per week (3.7%). Fuller closed her discussion byexplaining that the Board of Supervisors would be hearing the Library's budget on October 6, 1992, and that ComJmissioners should share their opinions regarding the proposed budget with the Board of Supervisors. vii.
