HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-13-1987 Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes NUTES SARATOGA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION TIME: Monday, July 13, 1987 PLACE: SARATOGA COMMUNITY CENTER 19655 Allendale Avenue, Saratoga, California TYPE: Regular Chairman Vallone called the meeting to order. I. ORGANIZATION A. ROLL CALL Present: Franklin, Pakula, Pierce, Saunders, Vallone, Ward. Absent Clemens. Staff: Dan Trinidad, Roy Swanson, Joan Pisani, Sharon Trejo. B. MINUTES Minutes of the June 1, 1987 meeting approved as read. C. POSTING OF THE AGENDA Agenda was posted on City Hall kiosk, July 9, 1987. II. OLD BUSINESS A. TRAIL MASTER PLAN The Parks and Recreation Commission will review the bicycle and equestrian portions of the trails and prepare a report to the Planning Commission who will then conduct a public hearing on that portion of the circulation element. Gene O'Rrourke of the Public Safety Commission wants to work with this Commission on the trail plan. Dan will meet with the Planning Director to develop criteria by which the pathways will be evaluated before the Commission can proceed. We hope to have a report for the Planning Commission by March 1988. B. DOGS IN PARKS Dan will submit a report to Council on the costs and proposed location for an experimental dog run. III. NEW BUSINESS None IV. COMMISSION AND STAFF REPORTS A. RECREATION SURVEY REPORT REVIEW The Recreation Survey was reviewed. Some of the things residents requested were more involvement with teams and high school activities, drinking fountain in Kevin Moran Park. The report also showed that Wildwood is the most widely used of the City parks. B. B~YI~.S~~T, PARK. ~E P~I~Y Members of the "Wombats", an informal adult softball league were present and discussed their interest in keeping the parks available for citizens to have non-structured activities. Dan told the Commission of the problems we are having because the City does not have enough facilities to accommodate all the groups requesting them. Commissioner Pierce supports free play, Commissioner Franklin agrees and feels there is too much structure. The Commission will schedule a work session to form a use policy after gathering data on current park use and finding out if there are school facilities available that we can utilize. C. REVIEW R~ UE T FOR REVOCATION OF EQUESTRIAN EASEMENT Will invite developer to next meeting so exact location of trail can be clarified. IV.
